Milford Baptist Kindergarten

Milford Baptist Kindergarten We run an all-day/sessional programme offering children and their families a secure, loving, caring, safe, Christian learning environment.

Our child-initiated curriculum and semi-structured programme recognises the learning and developmental needs, strengths and emerging interests of the individual children. We believe children are unique, with God-given potential to grow as confident and competent learners, healthy in body, mind and spirit. All children are treated with respect and exposed to appropriate learning opportunities. We believe children’s holistic development and learning is nurtured through play, interaction with and exploration of our environment, modelling, purposeful teaching and repetition, collaboration with parents, underpinned by Centre Vision, Values and Te Whaariki. Our Programme planning is guided by teachers’ observation of children’s play, as we believe this is the best way to cater for the children’s interests and to cover all developmental areas and learning styles. Our Rocket programme specifically emphasises transition to school. Our well-presented learning materials are inviting and challenging. We believe it is in the best interests of the Milford Baptist Kindergarten children to have teachers who are fully qualified, and supportive of our philosophy. Such teachers will be well informed with subject knowledge and teaching approaches, to facilitate groups and individual learning experiences. We believe parents and teachers should employ only positive behaviour management skills, in order to safeguard the children’s holistic well-being. At Milford Baptist Kindergarten we respect and honour the Treaty of Waitangi and the partnership created by the Treaty. We believe the Treaty promotes equal participation and care of the land on which we all live as New Zealanders.

What a lovely week we’ve had at MBK! ☀️

Our tamariki have been busy exploring, creating and having lots of fun together. We celebrated Māori Language Week through waiata, stories and learning more about Māori culture.

We’ve also enjoyed block building, art, science experiments with sink and float, and plenty of outdoor play in the sunshine. We shared The Lost Sheep story too, talking about caring for and looking after each other.

A busy and happy week at kindy! 💛

Kia ora MBK whānau!

Spring is here, the children enjoyed a variety of activities indoors and outdoors. Their explorations and experiences made visible the different languages of children. Children worked on their story books covers and their holiday stories through drawing and colouring. The Good Samaritan Bible story reminded children of love and care for each other by using 'Kind Hands, Kind Words and Kind Feet'.

It is a joy to be back after our study tour in Melbourne. It has inspired and strengthened our understanding on the principles of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and helped us reflect on how the children are at the heart of our Kindy.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30-31

Kia ora MBK whānau!
Our tamariki have enjoyed lots of social play this week and have enjoyed a variety of different activities both, in the indoor environment as well as outside. We have also enjoyed talking about Fathers Day and we want to take this opportunity to wish all the fathers and father figures a Happy Father's Day this weekend.

Kia ora MBK whānau!
What a wonderful week we’ve had at Kindy! We can finally see spring on its way as we enjoy the beautiful weather, with the crisp breeze and warm sunshine on our faces.

Our tamariki’s love for learning continues to shine as they explore and enjoy new experiences together. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity, excitement, and joy as they learn through play.

We also took some time to recognise Daffodil Day , an important day that helps raise awareness and support for people affected by cancer. It is a beautiful reminder of the importance of showing kindness, compassion, and support to individuals and families in our community who may be going through a difficult journey.

We’ve also continued talking about our Bible story for the week, “Jesus Feeds the 5,000.” This is one of the amazing miracles Jesus performed, reminding us that He is enough and that we can trust in Him to provide for us.

Kia ora MBK whānau!
It's Children's Book Week! Our tamariki have loved sharing their favourite pukapuka/books with their friends, and exploring their favourite stories in different ways.
Our tamariki have been learning about Jesus feeding the 5,000 this week. We've also been making the most of the sunshine with lots of sensory exploration outdoors, and we've seen some impressive mahi toi/art and hangs/construction works as tamariki mahi tahi/work together.

This week, our tamariki enjoyed varied games and songs,and used their imaginations to be a mum, a dad, or a baby. Along the way, they explored counting and measurement by building towers with blocks and counting each block to see how tall they could make them.

We also wrapped up our Bible Story, Jesus Calms the Storm, where we all learned that God gives peace, even when things feel stormy.

What a fun, sunny week we’ve had at kindergarten!

The children enjoyed exploring loose parts, creating amazing constructions, and sharing their ideas with one another. They were also immersed in books and stories, using drawing, building, and imaginative play to retell and create their own stories.

Our Bible story this week was Jesus Calms the Storm. We learned that Jesus is always with us, and we can trust Him and have faith in God’s love and power.
