Also a huge congrats to Mary who was awarded her Silver Tui over the weekend as a part of the founders day awards. This is the highest scout leader award for exceptional service above and beyond over the years. So awesome to see her awarded with this as Mary has definitely gone above and beyond with all her efforts dedicated towards the scouts and the group so well done!

What a great zone founders weekend camp. Thank you to all the groups that ran bases and activities and an especially thank you to the zone team for all the hard mahi of planning, organising etc the weekend. I was on the climbing wall base so most of my photos were from there. Working on a base like the climbing wall you get to see most of the youth have a go and challenge themselves but without the need to push them too far out of their comfort zones like the abseiling tower does. Makes it a rewarding base to work on. Great weekend with a nice mix of busyness and relaxation to chill and hang with your friends made for a great weekend.

A huge shout out to Zara who received the scout spirit award for the weekend. Which was well deserved. Zara always tries to look out for the other scouts around her, to encourage them, lead, and include.

And a huge shout out to our ex scout Will who after leaving our scouts with his Chief scout award (the highest scout award) went off to venturers and over the years done the hard work to achieve his king scout award - the highest venturer award. This was also presented this weekend. A lot of work, effort, and planning go into these awards and to know that two of our ex scouts have both gone on to venturers and achieved this award both presented over the last couple of years makes us super proud as leaders to see them achieving the best they can. Well done Will!

Wow! what a year. Its been a busy one in and out of scouts so unfortunately the page got a bit neglected, hoping to rectify that for this year. Below is some of the fun all rolled into one from the last year. Over the year we had 5 golds, 2 silvers, 3 bronze - many event badges, term badges, a life time of service leader award, adventure skills badges, Better world badges all handed out over the different terms. Finishing on a high of the 5 gold badges (watch this space for those to eventuate in to Chief Scout Rimu awards!!) Bring on 2026 with many more Adventures and Fun to be had along with a splash of life skills, personal growth, leadership skills, Creativity.... And.... NATIONAL JAMBOREE!!

Gone Home
It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Brian, a long-time and much-loved part of both Western Bays and Owairaka Sea Scouts, passed away on Monday 29th September 2025 while out on the water doing what he loved.
Brian has given countless hours to Scouting over many years – helping with camps, water activities, shooting, and so much more. His generosity, enthusiasm, and dedication made a lasting impact on generations of Scouts and leaders, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
We extend our love and sympathy to Brian’s family, friends, and the Scouting community at this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Brian – thank you for everything you gave to our Scouts and our community. 💙⚜️
