🌸 Spring is in the air, so we went out to find it!

Today, the Pūkeko children headed off to Tuff Crater for a beautiful spring walk. We found spring hiding everywhere — in the colourful little flowers, in the pond with ducks swimming, and in the fresh green grass beneath our feet.🌼🦆

The children were wonderfully independent throughout the whole walk, walking confidently, looking after one another and happily holding hands as we explored together. There was so much curiosity along the way — noticing, wondering, pointing things out and sharing discoveries with friends.

And once we reached the open grass, there was plenty of running, laughter and joy! So much communication happened naturally as the children talked with their friends, shared what they noticed and responded to each other’s ideas.

A beautiful morning of nature, friendship, movement and lots of springtime joy！

This week we celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori | Māori Language Week through a range of fun, hands-on experiences. Our tamariki enjoyed making delicious fruit kebabs and fry bread, taking turns to mix, knead, shape and create their own kai. We also decorated poi in honour of Māori Language Week.

These experiences supported fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, sensory exploration, language development, independence, turn-taking and working together. We introduced simple Māori words such as hua (fruit), kai (food), whānau (family) and whanaungatanga (togetherness) while learning about and connecting with Māori culture.

It was wonderful to see our tamariki proudly sharing their creations and enjoying kai together. Ka pai, tamariki!

💙 Father’s Day Breakfast 💙

Last Friday, we had a lovely time celebrating Father’s Day over breakfast! It was so special to see fathers taking the time to stop, sit down and enjoy breakfast with their children — even if it was just for a little while on the run.

Thank you to all the dads who came along. It was such a joy to celebrate you and to say thank you for all you do for your children.

Thank you for being a strong arm when they need support, a loving heart when they need comfort, a steady presence through life’s ups and downs, and a guiding example of love, strength, wisdom and integrity.

We are so grateful for the fathers who show up, encourage, protect, nurture and love their children in all the everyday moments that matter so much. 💙

🌋🧪 A Fun Afternoon of Science & Discovery! ✨

What an exciting afternoon we had on Wednesday as the children explored science through a hands-on volcano experiment in the sand!

Working collaboratively, the children created their own volcanoes, shared their predictions, and eagerly watched as the colourful “lava” bubbled, fizzed and flowed through the sand. 🌋

It was wonderful to see the children’s curiosity and excitement come to life as they explored the concepts of cause and effect through meaningful, hands-on learning. Activities like this provide wonderful opportunities for children to develop their communication, problem-solving, cooperation and early scientific thinking skills.

There were plenty of smiles, messy hands and moments of wonder as the children experimented, observed and discovered together.

A memorable afternoon filled with science, teamwork, curiosity and lots of messy fun! 🌋🧪✨

🌿✨ Clay Creations & Little Explorers! ✨🌿

Our tamariki in Tui and Kingfishers rooms have been busy squishing, rolling, tapping and moulding clay using their hands, rollers, mallets and hammers — adding natural treasures like 🍃 leaves, 🌲 pinecones, sticks, buttons and beads to bring their ideas to life!

Through this hands-on play, tamariki are developing:

🎉 Red Nose Day Fundraising Update! ❤️🔴

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our Red Nose Day fundraiser so far! Thanks to your generosity, we've already raised an amazing $1,391 through our gold coin donations! 🙌

Yesterday, we were visited by Professor CK as a special thank you for all our fundraising efforts so far. The children absolutely loved meeting her—they were all smiles, giving high fives and excitedly following her around! ❤️

🌟Bring your own picnic to our Matariki Disco 🌟

Come and celebrate Matariki with us for an afternoon of fun, music, and togetherness!

Bring the whole whānau along and pack your own picnic to enjoy together. We'll also have a delicious vegetable soup to share as we celebrate the spirit of Matariki and community.

On Friday 12th June, we celebrated Caitlin's final day as Centre Manager with a very special mat time filled with love, appreciation, and blessings.

Pastor Sheldon from opened the celebration with a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on Caitlin's dedication and impact on our centre. Miji then prayed a beautiful blessing over her as she embarks on her next chapter.

The children shared two beautiful songs, followed by a touching video montage featuring children and staff sharing their farewell messages and special memories. We then gathered to sing "Happy Last Day" to Caitlin as she enjoyed a farewell cake, and presented her with thoughtful cards from the children and gifts from the staff.

The celebration concluded with a meaningful morning devotion, providing a special opportunity to reflect, give thanks, and wish Caitlin every success for the future.

It was a truly memorable and heartfelt morning, and a wonderful way to honour Caitlin and all she has contributed to our centre. We wish her goodbye and good luck as she begins this exciting new journey.

On Thursday, the children from the Tui and Kingfisher classes had the wonderful opportunity to visit . The children were excited and engaged throughout the visit, but most importantly, they had the opportunity to learn about the value of participating in church activities, learning about Jesus, and applying His teachings of love, kindness, and compassion in their everyday lives.

Being involved in church activities can positively support a child’s spiritual, emotional, and social development. It encourages children to build strong values, develop a sense of belonging within a caring community, and grow in kindness, respect, gratitude, and compassion through shared experiences and learning.

A very special thank you to Victor for his warm welcome and detailed introduction to church. We truly appreciate the time and effort shared with our children.
