REPORT ON OPEN PAIRS HELD THURSDAY 10 APRIL 2025

A field of 28 teams enjoyed a glorious day of bowling - warm and sunny with the breeze barely sufficient to lift the flags off the flagpole, and the greens playing beautifully, perhaps a little faster and more “sticky” than previously following the recent rain. A big field meant that there were eight prizes up for grabs.
There was only one four winner so first place went to Gordon Jenkins and Kevin Robertson. Second and third places was closely fought between the teams of Evan Thomas and Ian Hardy, and Steve McGregor and Muy Chhour, who played each other in the third game and drew, both teams ending up with three wins and a draw for the day. Ian’s team took second place with 32 ends, Steve and Muy third with 30 ends. There was a fistful of three winners vying for the remaining two overall prizes, with three teams having three wins and 28 ends. Fourth place went to Colleen Rice and Sheryl Wellington with 59 points for. Fifth place went to Gerry Strydom and Barrie Baillie with 52 points for. Phil Chisholm and Theresa Rogers were the unlucky 28 enders, but picked up the morning prize with two wins, 14 ends and 26 points, the best of the five contenders for this prize. There were only two contenders for the afternoon prize, with Barry McCrystal and Rosemary Nichol taking it with 19 ends. Lucky dip, quite fittingly, went to Allan Langley and Graham Ward, who stepped in at the last minute when Allan’s partner became unable to play.
As usual, thanks to all those who helped make the day successful and enjoyable by helping with the many tasks needed to run the day. Special thanks to Linda Valentine and Lynette Lindsay for morning tea.

Hello from South Island,

We had a couple of catch-ups with Ron and Gaye at their lovely new home and then to watch them play a game at the Amberley bowling club on Sunday as we make our way back to the Marlborough area.
We had a really lovely time and I think the photo shows it.

We’ve done well meeting up with MBBC friends, the Mackay’s at Rangitaiki, Trent’s and Jamieson’s in Blenheim.

Always fun.
Jane and Tony.
