No 6 (North Shore) Squadron Air Training Corps Six Squadron is the premier youth organisation on Auckland's North Shore. In 2009, Six Squadron celebrated its 50th anniversary. This left the Squadron homeless.

We provide opportunities for leadership, development and challenges to high school students aged between 13-18. It began life in Devonport's Fort Cautley in February of 1959. However, Six Squadron quickly outgrew its original building and moved to North Head. Later, the Squadron moved in with 3 other ATC Squadrons in Blake Street, Ponsonby. The unit spent several years there until Defence sold the

land in 1996. Six Squadron moved around various locations loaned by the Navy, Takapuna Grammar and Glenfield Primary. In 2002 Six Squadron found a home of its own. The North Devonport Bowling Club became available. Six Squadron got a lease for this and has been there ever since, making it their home. Six Squadron is continually fundraising in order to maintain the building, so that it can continue its work with the youth of Auckland's North Shore.

Last week, our cadets had the opportunity to learn from Fire and Emergency New Zealand during a visit to the unit. 🚒

Firefighters demonstrated the capabilities of a fire truck, explained the equipment carried on board, and shared how it is used to respond to a range of emergencies. Thank you to the crew for taking the time to provide such an engaging and informative experience for our cadets!

Over the weekend, our Basic 1 cadets learned all about Firearm Safety, the skills needed to handle the NZCF Marlins, completed their safety test, culminating in them experiencing their first shooting activity at the range on Sunday. This gave us the perfect opportunity to test out our new active ear defenders, which increase safety by allowing all shooters to clearly hear instructions, made possible by a generous donation from the Devonport RSA.
