No 6 (North Shore) Squadron Air Training Corps

No 6 (North Shore) Squadron Air Training Corps Six Squadron is the premier youth organisation on Auckland's North Shore. In 2009, Six Squadron celebrated its 50th anniversary. This left the Squadron homeless.

We provide opportunities for leadership, development and challenges to high school students aged between 13-18. It began life in Devonport's Fort Cautley in February of 1959. However, Six Squadron quickly outgrew its original building and moved to North Head. Later, the Squadron moved in with 3 other ATC Squadrons in Blake Street, Ponsonby. The unit spent several years there until Defence sold the

land in 1996. Six Squadron moved around various locations loaned by the Navy, Takapuna Grammar and Glenfield Primary. In 2002 Six Squadron found a home of its own. The North Devonport Bowling Club became available. Six Squadron got a lease for this and has been there ever since, making it their home. Six Squadron is continually fundraising in order to maintain the building, so that it can continue its work with the youth of Auckland's North Shore.

Tonight's the night we start parading for 2026! While this is the first Monday night training for the year, we've already hit the year running with our activities 🚶‍♀️‍➡️🛩️🖥️! Cadets and parents have helped out as event marshals at the annual Run Devonport race, cadets have been flying solo on the National Aviation Course (check out the Seven Sharp segment here: https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/seven-sharp/clips/on-a-wing-and-a-dream 🤯), and just this weekend, the NCO team have been training and prepping for the year to come, learning about their new roles in the unit, and setting up for a great year to come!
It's not too late to join, come along tonight to find out more (those now in Year 9)!

Congratulations SGT Stohr-Walden who achieved his first solo at the National Gliding Course earlier this month.

Last Monday, 6SQN held our final parade, celebrating the achievements, growth, and dedication of our cadets throughout the year. We’re so proud of everything that was accomplished and can’t wait to see what next year brings!

This parade also gave the special opportunity for the presentation of SQNLDR Alex Koppenaals first clasp for his Cadet Force Medal. This clasp represents 20 years of continuous service as an officer in the NZCF and the SQNLDRS dedication to our organization

On Monday evening this week we swapped our parade shoes for our boots, and spent the evening being hosted by No.6 SQN RNZAF, where the cadets got to learn all about the Seasprite and the squadron. We then finished the evening watching a Seasprite come in to land and perform a "rotors on refuel" - an experience that will not be forgotten soon by any of them. A huge thank you to the members of 6 SQN RNZAF who hosted us and answered the endless questions from the cadets.
Opportunities like this are what make the Air Training Corps special - if you know anyone who'd like to join us for next year, sign up to our open evenings here: https://forms.gle/tUUpvww7kBkQMT256
