🎈 What happens when a whole town loves popping balloons just a little too much?

Meet Left to Nowhere, written and illustrated by Ian Chapman—today’s BookHub Picture Book Award finalist in the spotlight!

In Nowhere in Particular, the townspeople have two favourite pastimes: watching television and popping the thousands of balloons drifting overhead. But what they don’t realise is that their actions come with consequences.

The skilfully layered narrative is accompanied by striking illustrations to create a thought-provoking book that highlights the importance of cherishing what we have.

The first ever national book week is happening 15-21 August 2026.

Join us! Celebrate! Do this any way that suits you.

“The spoken word is where I feel the poetry lives. Publishing it in a book was far scarier for me than speaking it on a stage in front of people.” — Nafanua Purcell Kersel, who won the poetry prize at this year’s Ockham’s for her first book, ‘Black Sugarcane’.
