Wahoo we are nearly at that time of year again! The Auckland Pet & Animal Expo is on the 19-20 September 2026 at the Auckland Showgrounds.

We love nothing more than chatting to other Rottie lovers and educating others on our gorgeous breed.

We have some FREE tickets to give away.

UPDATE TIME!

Apologies for the radio silence all. My mother is very unwell so my focus has been elsewhere but don't worry the dogs in our care are very well looked after!

On Sunday I had a road trip south to see our gorgeous Daisy (Jess). She was so happy to see me, lots of kisses and cuddles, it really made my day! She has settled well with Minnie and her new parents, so it was an easy yes to her staying and finalising her adoption! Happy new life Daisy!

Then off to FINALLY meet the gorgeous Leo and his family at Liquorland Pukekohe. It's been a while as I kept missing them so a well deserved bag of treaties was delivered with love and pats. If you didn't know they have a donation box for us in store and so many generous donators give to us to help our breed—we are so grateful and Leo does an amazing job as an ambassador for our breed (his cousins). As you can see Jojo and I had fun counting it all.
If you haven't met Leo please do--I have met a LOT of Rotties over the years and Leo is definitely a big softie--just don't mess with his Mum. Thanks to Leo, his family and the generous customers!

On the way home it was a final stop at the Boutique Cattery in Drury. Cats you say? Yes they are amazing supporters and yes they have Rottweilers too. The cattery is beautiful actually so a great place if your cat needs to go for boarding and the owners have a wicked sense of humour—well British humour which is right up my alley. They kindly donated an acrylic painting done by one of the owners and it will be used as a fundraiser so keep an eye out! There are some amazing cat ones for sale too. And of course I got more Rottie pats and the odd cat smooch too!

Remember keep nagging us if you are looking to adopt—we all have a lot on so if there is a bit of silence don't take t personally, just reach out again. We appreciate you all!

Right now, there are Rotties waiting who don’t understand why their world has fallen apart. They’re scared, confused, and waiting for someone to open their home — even just for a little while — so they can breathe again.

We have wonderful fosters, truly incredible people, but those available already have dogs. And because we don’t place dogs with same s*x dogs, we’re running out of safe options fast.

You’re a great fit if:
• You’re in or near Auckland
• You have a dog (or none at all)
• You have NO CATS - most Rotties that come our way aren’t cat friendly or are untested, and the risk is simply too high

Soooooo….your spare room, your quiet corner, your couch… it could be the difference between fear and safety for a dog who desperately needs a chance. Your home could be the lifeline they have been waiting for.

A HUGE thank you to Jan and Ian of !

Our poor boy Jojo (permanent foster) has been struggling of late and after further xrays of his front legs it revealed that as a pup he must have had both broken and left to heal naturally. His front legs had never been an issue until one night he awoke screaming in pain.

We managed to get the pain under control but he must have tweaked it recently being the idiot he can sometimes be! The vet suggested we use red light therapy. So after a lot of googling to find an NZ company I decided to message Infrared Lights NZ. Of course I did the cheeky "Do you give discounts to charity?"

They responded quickly and sent us a light pad FREE! We were so blown away and grateful for their generosity and support.

Permanent Foster Dogs

Did you know we have permanent foster dogs? These are dogs that for one reason or another couldn't be rehomed. These dogs spend their final years in foster homes and we as a rescue pay for their food and vet care til they pass. At the moment we have 3 permanent dogs in our care .

This is why having fosters to help us save as many dogs as we can is so important! Ideally all dogs get their forever homes but it's not always the case (although their fosters become their family).

One such dog was Aurora. A beautiful girl who loved life and her humans (more so than dogs). She'd had a bit of abuse in her previous home and due to that she had become reactive and the owner rehomed her to us. What they didn't tell us was that she had a council classification against her for going at a small dog. The owner didn't disclose this to us and we don't rehome menacing/classified dogs.

If we had a rescue centre we could keep and manage all of these dogs but sadly we don't and can't. Therefore, we had a hard decision ahead on whether to try and find a permanent foster or euthanise. I asked my Mother to foster her for a few weeks while we made a call or found her a forever angel family.

Well it turned out that Mum wasn't giving her back and she said she would foster her for as long as it takes. That was 3yrs ago.

Recently Aurora was having trouble toileting and she was not a happy camper. So I booked her straight in for x-rays and bloods as I had a feeling it was a tumor or severe spondylosis. Last Thursday I picked up a lethargic, bloated girl and I knew something was severely wrong.

Not long after dropping her at the vets I got a call from the to say yes she has a large tumor blocking her bowel and bladder. Not only that but her kidneys were also failing.

One of that hardest parts of rescue is making a call on a dog but when they are so sick, while hard, the decision to stop the suffering is easy. A call to Mum who was just out of hospital with a cancer diagnosis herself we said goodbye to our gorgeous girl. She brought so much joy to us and Jojo (also a permanent foster) loved her to bits. They were great buddies.

A huge thanks to the team at K9 Heaven the Country Club for Dogs who helped foster her in the beginning and to Caring Cremations who gave her a lovely send off.

Rest in peace sweet Aurora. You were tough, stoic and fought to the end.

Whether this post is real or AI generated the fact remains the same.....micochipping gets dogs home!

Did you know that we have TWO ways to register our dogs microchip in NZ?!

The first is by our council registration where the chip goes onto the NDD or National Dog Database. Only the council have access to this information.

The second is on the Animal Register or the NZCAR (New Zealand Companion Animal Register)/ This can be accessed by us as rescues, vets and council if they choose to.

You MUST keep your details up to date. The amount of times we have had dogs come in that are chipped but not registered or on the NZCAR. Or the details are not up to date.

It's up to you to make sure if you sell or give your dog away that the details are changed over. It could mean that if your dog does get lost it can be reunited with you sooner rather than later.

Life has a way of throwing as much crap at you as it can, just when you think you've had enough to last a lifetime!

The one thing however that gets us through, and can make us smile through the tears no matter how hard things get, are our dogs!

Where would we be without the muddy paws and the drool, those pleading eyes as lets face it they haven't been fed in minutes. The hair on the couch, bed and in your dinner as well as those watching you as you try and claw back some dignity on the throne.

What I love to see is other families who get so excited to welcome a new member to their family. And for 2 lucky families they will be getting all that excitement and sleepless nights as they settle in.

Our beautiful Jess (now Daisy) was des*xed last week and is now recovering before heading off to her new home with wee Minnie once her stitches are out. Hopefully very soon as everyone is super excited.

A meet and greet for our gorgeous new girl Ruby on Saturday ended up in them bundling her into the car then & there and driving off. It's ok, they have our lovely Shelby so as pre-approved owners they had already been grilled by us so off they went happy as anything. A sleepless night ensued so we are praying she will settle better tonight after a day of play and cuddles. As you can see she is making herself right at home!

So no matter what life is or isn't throwing at you right now—hug your dogs and get out in nature with them. It's a great healer!
