Right now, Afghanistan stands alone as the only country in the world where girls are banned from attending school past Year 7. Over 2.5 million bright, ambitious young women have had their classrooms locked and their futures put on hold. We refuse to let them be forgotten.

At Henderson Rotary's meeting tonight, we heard from one of our own members, Saveun Man (Sav), about his upbringing and career. Sav spent more than 17 years in the video games design industry, and has recently joined The Rotary Club of Henderson-New Zealand bringing a wealth of creative and technical expertise to our club.

He has recently launched his own business called Carpoolin, which aims to revolutionise the way Aucklanders (and New Zealanders) commute. By connecting people headed in the same direction, Carpoolin helps reduce motorway congestion, lowers travel costs, and fosters a greener, more connected community. A pretty big opportunity at the moment with petrol as expensive as it is!

Great to have students that we supported to the Rotary National Science & Technology Forum attend our meeting tonight to report back on the experience. This is always a highlight of the year hearing from the students about this life-changing experience. We supported one student from Green Bay High School and two from St Dominics College. (See the post below from St Dominics!)

The Rotary National Science and Technology Forum is a premier 14-day residential programme in Auckland designed to give high-achieving Year 12 students a hands-on taste of university life and career pathways in STEM. It’s a transformative experience where students engage in high-level lectures and labs as well as heap of fun, and we encourage all eligible Year 12s to look out for 2027 applications opening in August 2026!

It was our great pleasure to host the Hendriks family as we celebrated our life member Tom Hendriks on the remarkable occasion of his 100th birthday. It was a truly special gathering, filled with warmth, memories, and appreciation for Tom’s longstanding contribution and fellowship. It was a memorable celebration for all involved.
