World Orienteering Cup 2026 athlete | ZARA STEWART
1. How many artificial barriers do you think will be in the WOC sprint final?
One, but it's super long and squiggly.

2. What was your go-to/favourite workout session in your WOC training?
Orienteering intervals, they're a fun way to break up the running and keep things interesting.

3. What's your pre-race routine in the start box to help you get locked into race mode?
I have a checklist of things I go over to focus on while running. Though sometimes a song gets stuck in my head

4. What is one aspect of support/friendship you like from other orienteers, despite you all competing against each other?
Everyone is always super warm and welcoming, cheering each other on, asking how the race went and what to do afterwards. It makes everything feel nice and relaxed, just like you're hanging out with friends.

5. What is one thing that helps you prepare for racing in different terrain and countries?
Going over early and doing some training on similar maps is always helpful if you get the chance. Also stalking google maps street view and practicing route choices on similar maps.

World Orienteering Cup 2026 athlete | ZARA Tร–ES
1. How many artificial barriers do you think will be in the WOC sprint final?
An even 10 because itโ€™s already pretty tricky.

2. What was your go-to/favourite workout session in your WOC training?
Broken 2kms at the track

3. What's your pre-race routine in the start box to help you get locked into race mode?
Visualising flipping over my map and navigating to the first control keeps me calm and focused

4. What is one aspect of support/friendship you like from other orienteers, despite you all competing against each other?
I love debriefing together after a race โ€“ being able to celebrate good races together or deconstruct silly mistakes keeps things humble.

5. What is one thing that helps you prepare for racing in different terrain and countries?
Some google-earth geeking and chatting to more experienced orienteers

World Orienteering Cup 2026 athlete | PENELOPE SALMON
1. How many artificial barriers do you think will be in the WOC sprint final?
Nine

2. What was your go-to/favourite workout session in your WOC training?
Finding a hill to cycle up

3. What's your pre-race routine in the start box to help you get locked into race mode?
Trying not to think of much! Just to get to no.1 calm and collected.

4. What is one aspect of support/friendship you like from other orienteers, despite you all competing against each other?
So much! But I really enjoy meeting all types of orienteers at training camps and I love when other orienteers travel all the way around the world to come visit New Zealand and get to see how awesome it is.

5. What is one thing that helps you prepare for racing in different terrain and countries?
Definitely training camps. They allow me to get into the terrain and figure out the nuances that Iโ€™ll need to watch out for when it comes to race day.
