After graduating from the Tāmaki Trades Academy last year, Jaiden is thriving in his cadetship placement under Constructa.

There’s something powerful about seeing local rangatahi from your own community on work sites, learning the trades and creating the homes that will eventually house local whānau.

It means the benefits of regeneration can extend beyond the physical builds. They’re gaining skills and experience, working alongside the people delivering projects in the neighbourhood they grew up in.

As a former student of Tamaki College, Max had progressed through the Tāmaki Jobs & Skills Hub into a qualified plumbing career, building the skills and experience to create a positive future for himself.

His success reflects the importance of investing in local people and creating opportunities that connect education with training and employment.

The Tāmaki Jobs & Skills Hub has been connecting local people with meaningful job opportunities in the community they know and care about. There is real value in having locals represented in these spaces and seeing familiar faces helping shape the future of Tāmaki.

As a proud Tāmaki local, Khyber’s journey is a great example of the impact strong community partnerships can have in creating real opportunities for local people.

Through the Tāmaki Jobs & Skills Hub, Khyber was placed with Signature Construction, gaining valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the industry. Having strong mentorship on site has been a huge contributor to building his confidence and helping him grow within the industry.

Partnerships like these are incredibly important in helping bridge the gap between training and employment. They create meaningful pathways for cadets to develop practical skills, make industry connections and gain experience that can lead to long-term careers.

A special thank you to Gareth and the team at Signature Construction for creating this pathway and partnership. The impact of this work will leave a lasting legacy in Tāmaki - not only through the physical builds themselves, but through the positive influence and opportunities being created for future generations of cadets and local rangatahi.

His greatest highlight has been watching graduates gain employment opportunities in the community where they live.

Seeing students build careers close to home shows how the programme is contributing to growing a skilled local workforce and strengthening the Tāmaki community for the future.
