The Stones That Testify - Talk this Sunday 8th Feb

Instead of preaching about q***r folks as people who need support, I'm inverting it to what can q***r and trans people teach the rest of us about being fully human? Especially now, when authoritarianism and even AI are trying to flatten us all into simple categories. I'll be weaving in the story of the Kapaemahu stones in Waikiki - four healing stones connected to mahu (Hawaiian gender-diverse) practitioners that were literally buried under concrete for decades and then uncovered in the 90s.

The Auckland Unitarian Church condemns the actions of the Destiny Church followers both at the Te Atatu library and at the Ponsonby Pride parade. In both protests, Destiny Church’s “Man Up” group behaved aggressively, sought to intimidate, and they frightened children. These actions demonstrated a fear of gender diversity.
It is a core principle of this church to value the worth and dignity of every individual. All members of the LGBTQI+ community are welcomed here and their rights unconditionally supported. We value the richness that diversity brings to our society.

The Unitarian Church puts love at the centre of its beliefs and has, for centuries, supported the rights of minority groups. We extend our aroha to all in the LGBTQI+ community.
