The Learning Hub is a series of workshops, run under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, for migrant parents who want to navigate New Zealand's complicated education system.

Last evening we held the second of 10 sessions. The topic was After School What Next? It was presented by veteran educationist Prabhat Chand, programme co-ordinator at Unitec, and covered the opportunities that secondary school student have after they graduate. There was an animated discussion among the audience and many expressed appreciation for the programme.

These session will be held every Saturday for the next eight weeks at 6.30 pm, at the Waitakere Indian Association Centre, 399 Don Buck Road. Please follow this page for updates.

If you are a parent who has children in school please read this important information.

Over the next two months the Ministry of Education with the We Are One Trust is conducting a series of nine workshops for parents who want to get a better understanding of the New Zealand education system and school curriculum.

The sessions will be held every Saturday, starting from Saturday 24 May 2025, from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm. The venue is the Community Hall at 399 Don Buck Road, Massey.

The following topics will be discussed.

1. University entrance and career guidance for school leavers – 24 May
2. The role of parents in their child’s education – 31 May
3. Developing young leaders – 7 June
4. Digital tech and the role of parents – 14 June
5. Understanding the NZ school board of trustees – 21 June
6. Mental health and wellbeing at school – 28 June
7. What does teaching look like in the classroom – 5 July
8. Supporting gifted learners – 12 July
9. Bullying and safety at school – 19 July

Attendance is free and a light meal will be provided for attendees at each session.
