Every time we are planning an event, we start by dreaming up all the ways we can play with our food and how we can evoke as many human sensations as possible. Our menus are always intentional and as unconventional as possible. You won't find this much fun in any other Neighbourhood.

One final experimental menu for the year launching this Saturday. It might just be our favourite concept yet 🧪🍴

Our final event of 2025 — Presenting; "All Systems Slow" 🌀

This event represents a socio-spatial experience rooted in themes of regeneration and recovery from the overstimulation and severance experienced within our bodies in urban environments. Through food, sound and art we will explore how our environment(s) affect us on a cellular level and learn tools for soft resilience and recovery. Drawing on themes of intention, mutualism and awareness we will uncover how in turn, we are able to influence our own landscapes and co-create in a utopia of community, decolonisation and compassion for ourselves and our living earth.

After a year-long creative residency curating third spaces that feel simultaneously like dreamscapes and think tanks, and will be partnering up for one last event in 2025. All Systems Slow commemorates Madeline's transition from student to Doctor and through her creative partnership with Echo, they tell strong stories rooted in science that find soft landing places through art, immersive installation and aesthetics.

Neighbourhood welcomes our female and non-binary community to this free event at Studio One Toi Tū in Ponsonby on Saturday November 8th. Save your spot by emailing [email protected] with your name, phone number and email to secure one of only 17 spaces! 🌳🪑

Last month, whilst I was thousands of kilometres away, a very special friend / neighbour / writing wizard and brave creator hosted the cosiest writing workshop for our women + non-binary community.
liinii so gorgeously gathered 20 humans; weaving her artistry and experience with the same dream to make third spaces both safe and creatively stimulating for everyone. We finalised the poster together whilst I was on a train to Paris and she was burning the midnight oil in preparation. A collaboration that spanned hemispheres and transcended time zones. To know Rosa is to love her, her courage and her rare and deeply admirable ability to always shine authentically and unapologetically. I couldn't think of any better human to hand over the reigns to first.

I am immensely grateful (and emotional) to slowly step away from this community space in the coming months, yet so simultaneously warm knowing the hands, arms and hearts that you will fall into in place of me.

Thank you to our beloved Rosa, our community that always shows up and sells us out, .toitu for the home and the trust and our gorgeously generous sponsors .bakery .golden .hydration - you make our dream for accessible, stimulating and one-of-a-kind spaces possible.

More soon. Love, Madeline ###

DROP IN. TUNE OUT. TURN ON.

For our (Phone-free) Creative Writing Workshop led by .liinii ✍️🌀A chance to step away from screens and dive into the magic of words.

Writing can be considered a tricky craft; an intimidating one at best. But it doesn't have to be. Writing can be a pleasurable and therapeutic way of accessing a world beyond the physical one. So join us, leave your phone at the door, step out of the digital headspace and into the visceral one.

Over the span of three focused hours, together, we’ll awaken all five senses: sight, smell, sound, taste, touch, travel back to that childhood sense of awe, and tap into the creative flow.
Your imagination will be fuelled by treats from .bakery, , .golden, .hydration, and .

This workshop is open to Women & Non‑Binary folk looking to deepen their craft—whether for pleasure, play, or profession. Expect a welcoming, open‑hearted space. Bring an open mind and your journal (you’ll want to take your stories home and keep writing).

We’ll end with a Q&A on freelance writing, pitching ideas, and building a writing‑community. And the best part? It’s completely FREE. However, a koha donation is very very appreciated.

Spaces are limited—grab your ticket via the link in our bio.

Gratefully as always to our generous sponsors and supportive community who make these safe and flourishing third spaces possible. See you there ! 💙⭐️

(*please note this event is only for Women & Non-Binary folk)

From the archives: Late Night Chess Club with ❤️♟️

Neighbourhood and our community has a distinctive ability to make a home in any social space. We wanted to make nights out more intentional, creative and conscious - and create an atmosphere that effortlessly danced beyond small talk and nervous glances. Naturally, we threw down some chess boards, mixed the finest .golden cocktails and watched our community connect over strategy, music, intention and play. We get hyped up on being a reliable force for good; a place to meet new friends, your next date night idea and a safe space to be seen and understood.

Thank you for backing every social experiment with so much warmth and passion. We're grateful that you choose us as your neighbourhood. ⭐️

What to expect when we SLUMBER. ⭐️🤎🍵

This event was created out of the desire to keep us creative and connected during winter, which is typically a season where we feel drawn to hibernate.

We wanted going out to socialise to feel as safe and cosy as staying in, whilst still providing a space for human connection, creativity, education and introspection.

We're grateful to be teaming up with , a brand founded on the importance of rest and recalibration, and providing matcha martini's on arrival. We've got science-backed wellness workshops covering our feminine physiology and need to honour our cycles, and a reflective journaling session to prompt a moment of mindfulness. You'll be grazing from an elevated whole food spread, serving all your favourite cinema snacks with a twist whilst you sink into our very own slumber set up. 🍿🎞️

We wanted this event to feel like the honest and epic parts of girlhood; silly, sweet, soft and sentimental. We know it's not always easy being a girl in the modern world, but we think learning how to rest and give back to ourselves is an important place to start. 🤎

Nothing keeps us more well than the power of nature. Our second event for winter is landing soon. 🚀

SLUMBER is a space to exhale and sink into the softer side of winter with modern wellness workshops, an elevated take on your favourite cinema snacks, and a retro film to tuck us in. Led by Madeline Mason and Jess Hill, founders of Neighbourhood & Nana-J, this is your invitation to chill with intention.

Your ticket includes:

Since Neighbourhood's outset in 2020, I've always stood by my mission statement of creating and cultivating spaces and experiences that don't yet exist. Our modern world is saturated with "wellness culture" and we are so often told that when healing is required it is a question of what product or regime we can be sold. Neighbourhood's wellness mission both looks and feels a little different. It is something that can't be consumed but rather experienced. Community is nothing more than a noun if we don't advocate for feeling it.

In February we tackled our greatest risk in an event concept so far; creating a space where a room of women, all strangers, would feel comfortable enough to wear nothing more than underwear, eat food with their fingers and participate in somatic exercises that cultivated feeling over thinking.

We don't make any money off our events or market them to the masses. Each time we pop up it's a quiet and considered call to a group of humans who may need our humble offering of spatial love, humanity and connection. Instead of payment our currency is founded off these testimonials of affection.

Here are a few of the testimonials we received from our Eat Your Heart Out event. Thank you deeply for always trusting this ever passionate social experiment. ❣️
