Another day, another political outrage — and once again it highlights the same problem:

Plenty of noise, zero practical fixes.

It’s good the media calls this stuff out. They should. But without any direction on what needs to change, it just becomes another place for people to complain while nothing actually shifts.

Public money gets spent, questions get asked, and the response is always:
“Outrage Deflections Excuses.”
Never:
“Here’s how we fix the system.”

Most New Zealanders live with clear rules and limits.
It’s not unreasonable to expect the same from the people spending our money.

Fairness. Transparency. Common‑sense standards.
That’s what’s missing and exactly what we should be talking about.
Fair standards matter

Jones kept a private driver on standby to take him to meetings in Toronto but the receipts suggest his accommodation was right next door to the conference he was attending.

Milestone Today!

We’ve reached 300 signatures! Not bad for something that started as a tiny idea. Let’s keep building this together and aim for the next 300.

Every signature strengthens the message and makes it harder to ignore!

Really.... Is this fair?

The Spinoff has reported that two MPs used taxpayer‑funded entitlements to buy or rent their own homes.
And honestly — most New Zealanders would never get away with anything close to that.

Everyday people don’t get to use work allowances to build personal wealth.
Most of us are just trying to keep up with rent or the mortgage.

This isn’t about left or right.
It’s about basic fairness and whether the rules for MPs still match the standards the rest of us live by.

If you think it’s time for clearer, common‑sense rules, please sign and share the petition.

MPs can receive up to $36,240 a year in superannuation contributions and use that money to buy property – then get another $36,400 a year to stay in it.

New website launched

We’ve set up a little website to go with the page. It’s still growing and a couple of areas are a work in progress, but it gives us a home base for everything we’re trying to do.

Stuff’s piece makes a solid point:
our politicians are drifting further away from the realities most New Zealanders live with. The perks, the allowances, the disconnect it’s all there.

But here’s the thing…
We can’t just read about it. We need to do something about it.

If you agree the system needs fair, modern, common‑sense rules, then please help me push for real change.

A fairer system won’t happen on its own.
It happens when everyday New Zealanders speak up.

A $63,000 Canadian trip, an on-call limo, and a $17,000 parking bill show a rapid pattern of personal spending by coalition ministers.

RNZ reports the Prime Minister has no interest in reviewing MP housing allowances.

Most New Zealanders don’t get thousands in accommodation support on top of a six‑figure salary.

If leaders won’t even look at the issue, then the public has to.

Spot the difference!

6-day Rate Payer Funded Scandinavian trip cost $14,000
VS 7-Day Tax Payer Funded Canada cost $63,000

It's pretty clear which public servant delivered more value for tax/rate payers dollars!

Is it fair for Central Govt Ministers to spend WAY more on luxury flights and Limo's?

Willie Jackson is right to call out waste, but reading this story you can’t help noticing something missing:

No one is actually proposing a practical fix.

We get outrage, finger‑pointing, and political theatre but not a single clear direction on how to stop this happening again.

That’s the real issue.
Huge amounts of public money get burned, and the response is always the same:

“Look what they did.”
Never:
“Here’s how we fix the system.”

Most New Zealanders live with clear rules and clear limits.
It’s not unreasonable to expect the same from the people spending our money.

Fairness. Transparency. Common‑sense standards.

That’s what’s missing from this debate and it’s exactly what we should be talking about.

Comments closed already?
I’m not here to slag off Stuff but it’s genuinely disappointing to see comments shut down this early on a story involving significant public spending.

People deserve space to discuss issues like this openly, especially when it involves decisions that affect taxpayers.

Why close the comments so quickly on something so important to public trust?

Invoices obtained by Stuff reveal $40k business class flights were bought before the minister sought a much lower premium economy budget.
