her Group (WTG) is a unity platform for members of the community to work together for righteousness, and in piety, and avoid sin and aggression. On this unity platform we will:

- Include all Muslims in New Zealand.
- Establish a system of cooperation based on Islamic principles.
- Support Muslim organisations to improve the quality of their services.
- Establish services that are necessary for the development of the community.
- Utilise the individual and collective potential, skills and resources of the community for the betterment of the community. Together we can make a difference

Yesterday, 18 January 2026, we wrapped up the third and final pilot workshop of our At Home Aged and Palliative Service (AHAPS) training series — and what an inspiring day it was.
This session explored three deeply meaningful areas that every community needs to talk about:
• Spiritual Support
• Planning and Getting Ready
• Death, Grief, and Loss
Eight passionate presenters delivered around a dozen engaging presentations, guiding participants through practical tools, real-life scenarios, and interactive activities that opened up honest, thoughtful conversations.
Our attendees didn’t just listen — they contributed, questioned, reflected, and helped shape the dialogue. Their insights added real value and reminded us why this initiative matters.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated AHAPS team. Your shared knowledge, coordination, and compassion made this workshop series a success.
As we move forward, we invite our wider community to stay connected, get involved, and support this important at-home care initiative for our elders. Together, we can build a network of care rooted in dignity, faith, and community strength.

AHAPS Pilot Workshop 3: "Enhancing Our Care, Strengthening Our Community"
We’re excited to invite our community carers to the third pilot workshop in our "At Home Aged and Palliative Service" training sessions — a session that builds on everything we’ve explored so far.

In this third workshop, we’ll extend our learning to some of the most meaningful and often challenging aspects of caregiving. Together, we’ll explore:
• Understanding the spiritual needs of elders
• How to offer compassionate spiritual support
• Emergency preparedness and practical planning
• Navigating death, grief, and bereavement with dignity and care

This session is designed to give carers the confidence, grounding, and emotional tools needed to support elders and families through every stage of the caregiving journey.

Your past presence, your questions, and your shared experiences have shaped this workshop series into something truly special. We look forward to gathering once more as we continue building a strong, informed, and connected community of carers.

Although it is a free, open-to-all workshop, we can only accommodate 40 participants, and that will be on a first-come, first-served basis after filling out the expression of interest to attend form. Building Skills, Confidence, and Community — Workshop 2 Complete
We held the second pilot workshop in our three-part At Home Aged and Palliative Service (AHAPS) training sessions, hosted by Mercy Hospice, Ponsonby, bringing together carers from across our community for another meaningful day of learning and connection.

This session focused on the practical, hands-on elements of caregiving — the everyday skills that make a real difference in the comfort, dignity, and well-being of our elders. Together, we explored:
• Personal care techniques
• Basic medical assistance
• Providing emotional and spiritual support
• Safe mobility and movement practices
The energy in the room was beautiful — carers sharing experiences, asking thoughtful questions, and supporting one another as we build stronger community networks and resources.

We look forward to welcoming caregivers back for the third session in the series as we continue strengthening our collective capacity to care for our elders at home.

Strengthening Community Care — Workshop 1 Complete
Yesterday, we held our first pilot workshop in our At Home Aged and Palliative Service (AHAPS), hosted by Mercy Hospice in Ponsonby and delivered in coordination with their fantastic Compassionate Communities team, Honohono Tātou Katoa (HTK). It was a beautiful gathering of informal carers from across our community, all coming together with a shared commitment to supporting our elders with dignity, compassion, and confidence.

It was a beautiful opportunity to learn together, share experiences, and build the networks that make caring for our elders not just a responsibility, but a collective act of compassion. From understanding daily care routines to navigating support, participants engaged with real-life tools designed to make caregiving at home more confident, connected, and sustainable.

The room was filled with curiosity, generosity, and heartfelt discussion — a reminder of how powerful it is when a community comes together to learn and uplift one another.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and supported the day. Your commitment strengthens the well-being of our elders and enriches the fabric of our community.

We look forward to continuing this journey together, building stronger networks and practical skills for caring for our elders and the terminally ill at home and expanding the resources available to all carers in our community.

WTG has once again carried out yet another successful Muslim Funeral Service workshop on preparing the deceased for burial (Ghusl & Kafan) at the Timaru Islamic Centre (Bilal Mosque). It was such a dynamic interactive gathering with lots of discussions and exchange of information.

WTG is in the process of planning another workshop in the south island after receiving requests from other Muslim communities there.

Alsalaamu Alaikum

Alhamdulillah, we had yet another successful function on Sunday 16 October when our respected guest speakers, Br. Mohammed Jada and Sh. Shaakir Ismail, came professionally prepared, spelling out their masterpiece presentation on the Dust of Riba. A big thank you goes to our two respected speakers who kept the wealth of information flowing from the beginning to the end.

Thanks also to our respected audience. It was such a heart-warming proactive engagement of our sisters and brothers who interacted effectively throughout the session. The group discussion in teams addressing raised questions was also a big plus for the day.

Your interest and positive participation have encouraged us to schedule similar grass-roots-oriented sessions addressing vital topics of high relevance to our daily life as Muslims. We will reach out to the community with notifications of our scheduled events closer to the time.

Following the successful Ghusl and Kafan training workshop with the Sri Lankan community on Sunday 31 July 2022, the Waikato Arab Social Club نادي وايكاتو العربي الاجتماعي has coordinated with WTG to organize a training workshop in Hamilton on Saturday, 13 August 2022 between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. These workshops are being managed with different communities as an effective educational outreach to keep the community well aware of the basic Islamic protocols we follow at the WTG Muslim Funeral Service.
