“Recovery Hapori whānui” is a charitable community project managed by NCBC Community Trust. The project is run by the NCBC community after school programme(CASP). And focus on the Māori, Pasifica, other minority ethnic groups and new migrants. This project will provide free or affordable extra- curricular classe
s to primary students and academic tutoring classes to high school students. We provide various after school classes such as Arts and sports classes for primary students, school holiday programs and tutoring classes for high schoolers. Our vision
1. Education changes lives. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that children exposed to various interest classes from an early age will help them establish good study habits, strengthen learning abilities, and build a positive learning attitude. Many children in Māori and Pasifika communities don’t have access to interest-driven education because of family finances and opportunities. They should have the opportunities to take those programs at an affordable cost or even free. The gap in children's academic performance begins to widen in high school. Due to financial reasons, Māori and Pasifika high schoolers facing academic challenges do not have resources such as extra tutoring like peers from other ethnic groups.
2. From Children to family
The pandemic caused a decrease in job opportunities. It's even more challenging for young parents in the community who need to look after their children after school. They can only find part- time jobs because of the burden of caring for their children. Therefore, providing after-school interest courses for children in the community at an affordable price has an additional benefit of supervising the children until their parents get off work. This will help parents to find full- time jobs and increase family income.
