Mangere Bridge Neighbourhood Support

Mangere Bridge Neighbourhood Support Neighbourhood Support Mangere Bridge is overseen by volunteers & work collaboratively with Counties Manukau Police. Better awareness means better security.

Neighbourhood Support Mangere Bridge is overseen by volunteers. We work collaboratively with NZ Police to continue to build household membership in Mangere Bridge. Your Neighbourhood Support Group provides an opportunity for neighbours to work together with each other, the Police and other community organisations to make a difference by enhancing community safety and well being. Neighbourhood Supp

ort is not about endless meetings or setting up committees, it is a very informal casual set up. An initial meeting to get started is a good idea, followed by monthly Police Intel Stats forwarded to members. Groups function by mutual effort, trust and cooperation between neighbours by sharing information, ideas and insights. By joining your local group you are saying "I am interested in my neighbourhood and the safety and wellbeing of everyone who lives in it". For groups to be successful, communication in the form of sharing information is most important. That information may come from within the group or from the Police via the Street Contact whose role it is to keep groups informed of what is happening in or near their neighbourhood. Members of Groups should:
# Respond to and report suspicious behavior to the Police first and also to each other
# Employ sensible security habits
# Look out for each other
# Be prepared for civil emergencies, whether it be flood, pandemic, earthquake or other event that causes problems in the community. There is no cost involved. Neighbourhood Support will provide ongoing support and advice for any issues you may encounter. You can also sign up to receive our monthly Police Intel Stats supplied by Counties Manukau Police. Some neighbours already know each other well and do look out for one another. Forming a group will then only be a matter of contacting Neighbourhood Support Mangere Bridge who will formalise what already exists. EMAIL US NOW FOR MORE INFORMATION TO GET YOUR GROUP STARTED! [email protected]

Stolen from a paraplegic! We need the communities help.

Around 320am on 1 May 2026 someone has targeted a home on Mountain Rd and stolen a Batec custom wheelchair attachment which allows the victims specialised wheelchair to be mobile.

The victim is devastated.

The offender who took it didn’t take the battery, so it won’t work. It’s designed to connect to only his wheelchair and won't work on any other wheelchair. The battery has now been hidden and removed from the address.

Please just do the right thing and return it. Pop it over the fence in the middle of the night if you have to.

How can the community help?
1. Share this post
2. Check your cameras from timings below and also register them on them on www.communitycam.co.nz
3. If you find the Batec attachment lying around (weighs about 8kgs), as shown in the photo, take to Police station and give them the file number 260502/0269

💲 Money a bit tight?

We know its tough out there and people are struggling.

Do you want to learn about the full range of financial supports available to you?

“Māngere’s Manage Your Money” has been created to support people facing cost of living pressures, and is focusing on two key areas: helping households manage essential utility costs (power, water, council rates and debt) and ensuring people are aware of the full range of financial supports available, including tax credits, winter energy payments, fuel assistance and rates relief.

The purpose of Māngere’s Manage Your Money night is to provide a practical, one-stop opportunity for families to get support with utilities, debt assistance, rates rebates/relief and check their eligibility for assistance.

Key agencies will be there: including banks, power providers, council, watercare, and government agencies (like Ministry of Social Development (MSD), IRD and Kāinga Ora).

WHEN:
Date: Thursday 30 April
Time: 5.30pm – 7.30pm
Venue: Māngere Town Centre Library

This free event is open to everyone. It is not only for those experiencing financial hardship, but also for families who own homes, have mortgages and want to better understand what support options are available to them. With interest rates expected to rise and ongoing increases in power and rates continuing to drive cost pressures, they have brought providers together to clearly outline what assistance is available and how families can access it.

Evacuation shelter locations in the images. Cyclone Vaianu is coming tonight. Are you prepared?
• Save this post and the images for the locations of the emergency shelters and other important information.
• Check the drains in your street are clear – yes this should be done regularly but its on us today to get this sorted.
• Check on your neighbours
• If you have to leave your house in a hurry what is your plan? Have you got essential items ready in a bag in case you have to leave quickly?
• Tie down tramps and other objects that could go flying
• Last Cyclone Gabrielle we saw photos of families swimming in floodwaters. DO NOT swim or walk in floodwaters. Floodwaters are contaminated with sewage, chemicals, and debris and can cause infections. It is also a serious drowning risk.
• Do not drive your vehicle through floodwaters.

Advice below from Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board
We encourage all members of our community to take the following steps to prepare:
• Check in on others: Please reach out to neighbours, whānau, friends—particularly those who may be vulnerable or without access to internet or regular updates.
• Prepare your property: Secure outdoor items, clear gutters and drains, and ensure your home is ready for severe weather.
• Plan for power outages: Charge phones and power banks, and ensure you have access to torches, batteries, and alternative information sources such as a battery-powered or car radio.
• Make a household plan: Discuss with your whānau what you would do and where you would go if it becomes unsafe to remain at home.
Emergency and safety information:
• If you are in immediate danger, please call 111 without delay. Rising floodwaters and other natural hazards require urgent action.
• Prepare a grab bag with essential items such as medication, warm clothing, food, water, chargers, and supplies for babies and pets.
• Consider in advance where you could safely relocate if evacuation becomes necessary.

Travel and activity advice
• Plan all travel carefully and stay updated on weather conditions.
• Check Auckland Transport and NZTA journey planners for disruptions to public transport and road networks.
• Avoid coastal activities, including boating and shore fishing, due to forecast large swells and hazardous conditions.
• Postpone outdoor recreation, including visits to parks and beaches, until conditions improve.

Reporting issues
• Report flooding or stormwater issues to Auckland Council on 09 301 0101.
• For damage to trees on public land, please use the council’s online “Report a Problem” tool.

Let’s Talk Fuel! ⛽ Fuel costs are impacting everyone at the moment, so we’d like to share some tips and advice to keep costs down and keep you, your fuel and your vehicles safe and secure.

Keeping costs down:
🚗 Consider carpooling with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues and share costs.
🚌 Use public transport or get your step count up and walk/bike part of the way.
🚗 Drive smoothly, keep tires properly inflated, use air-con wisely and reduce unnecessary weight in the vehicle.
⛽ Plan your journey and cut down on short/unnecessary trips. Vehicles use up to 20% more fuel when they're cold.
⛽ Shop around to find the best deal on fuel, apps like Gaspy can help you find lower cost fuel stations.
🫶 Don't hesitate to ask for help - everyone could use some support right now.

Keeping your fuel, vehicles, property, and business safe:
🔐 Keep your car locked in a garage, secure your fuel cap and use your car alarm.
🚗 If you can’t park your car in a garage, then park it on your property with the fuel cap close to a wall or another vehicle to restrict access.
🪛 Install safer screws to prevent number plate theft.
💡 Have security/sensor lighting on and cameras around your car if possible.
🔐 Keep your jerry containers out of sight and secured.
🎚️ Monitor your car fuel levels.
🔥 Fire and Emergency do not recommend storing extra fuel on your property. Fuel is a highly flammable substance, and storing large quantities of it comes with serious fire danger.
🧯 Only store what you know you will use soon. Keep it to less than 50 litres – extra rules apply if you want to store 50 litres or more.
🔐 Try to keep fuel out of sight and ensure fuel tanks are secured and locked to restrict theft and tampering.
🎦 Install cameras and security lighting that lights up fuel tanks and fuelling areas.
🚨 Install Parabeam alarms, to get alerts when someone enters your property.
⛔ Engage regular security patrols, especially overnight, to reinforce site visibility and deter offending.

We understand that the global fuel situation is causing people to feel nervous and some are concerned it could lead to an increase in fuel theft and related crime.
Nationally, Police is watching closely for any trends around fuel theft and associated offences. At this stage, there is no change in reports of fuel offending.

Please report all suspicious behaviour, fuel theft or incidents to Police: 105 or 105.police.govt.nz for non-urgent matters; or 111 for emergency situations that are happening now.
