Anakbayan Aotearoa calls for the immediate release of Chantal Anicoche. We demand her rights and welfare to be upheld with access to lawyers and human rights advocates; she must be released from the hands of the AFP, and back to safety.

Just like many of us, Chantal is a young activist who sought to learn about the conditions of oppressed people back home. We ask our members and friends to join us in calling for Chantal’s release by signing on to the Sign-on Statement for the Release of Chantal Anicoche (link in bio)

Baby Jane Orbe (1999–2020) was a young revolutionary from Batangas who chose to dedicate her life to serving the people. Committed to the struggle for national democracy, she joined the fight against exploitation and oppression, despite the dangers under a fascist regime. On July 6, 2020, she was killed by state forces in Nasugbu, Batangas, in what the military falsely claimed was an “encounter.” Her courage and sacrifice embody the spirit of a new generation of Filipinos who refuse to be silenced in the fight for justice and liberation.

Dandy Miguel (1986–2021) was a labour leader in Laguna who tirelessly fought for better wages, safer workplaces, and dignity for workers. Despite relentless red-tagging and threats, he stood firm, even helping victims of the March 7 “Bloody Sunday” massacre file complaints. Just weeks later, on March 28, 2021, he was brutally gunned down while riding home from work. His killing is part of the systematic attacks on unionists and activists under Duterte’s regime — proof of how far the state will go to silence those who defend the people.

🌾 Join us at our upcoming events! With support from , , and .gathering we have put together fundraising events to help youth delegates go to the Philippines.

This will allow them to be fully immersed with communities to deepen their understanding on- human rights, the true conditions of the country, and the people’s struggle for:
Land!
Livelihood!
& national sovereignty!

Ordinary filipino people struggle to acquire their basic needs as they endure corruption and repression- especially those most marginalised like- peasants, fisherfolk, workers, and indigenous peoples.
This is due to the philippines semi-colonial & semi-feudal system, which keeps it in a state of worsening economic crisis that only benefits the ruling class and foreign powers.
Their fighting spirit persists- despite the poverty and hardship caused by relentless
exploitation of public resources.

This systematic exploitation continues as
the legacy of plunder and deception carries on under the Marcos Jr. Government.
These injustices have fueled the nation’s recent civil protests demanding accountability from corrupt officials for their embezzlement of public funds and criminal neglect of disaster management.

An example of such injustices would be:
Flood control projects-despite large amounts of funding, these projects were recently exposed as defective or non-existent due to bureaucratic corruption.
The philippines faces on average, 20 typhoons yearly, claiming thousands of lives
and liveable land.

The immediate issues of the filipino people are not isolated tragedies but symptoms of a deep rooted systemic crisis.
The true depth of the filipino struggle can only be fully understood through direct immersion and solidarity with their communities.
Only through this is where we can truly see, understand, and be moved to take up their causes as our own.
