UNPUBLISHED UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PAPER AWARD

This is open to unpublished undergraduate student papers between a minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of 18,000 words. The paper must have been written for course credit at a New Zealand university. The writing of the paper must have been completed by the end of 2022. However, a paper completed during the summer period over 2022-2023 is also eligible provided the paper is submitted to your university by the closing date of 10th March 2023. The award carries a prize of $1,000.00.

Note: Entries for the Unpublished Undergraduate Student Paper Award must be submitted by the University. Only the top five papers from each university will be accepted.

UNPUBLISHED POST GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER AWARD

This is open to unpublished postgraduate student papers between a minimum of 8,000 and a maximum of 18,000 words. For Masters students, the paper must have been written in 2022 as part of the course requirements for a post-graduate degree at a New Zealand university. For PhD students there is no requirement that the paper must be written as part of the course requirements for the degree (the PhD student must be enrolled at a New Zealand university). The award carries a prize of $1,000.00.

The next Brown Bag seminar is on Wednesday 20th of July with Marc Corlett QC on practical differences in civil and criminal proceedings. Focus on trend of increasing criminalisation of corporate law obligations, including cartel criminalisation.

Upcoming Masterclass in Tort Law with Professor Stephen Todd on Thursday 28 July 2022 at 5pm at Old Government House, Auckland University.

This seminar explores recent developments in the area of tort law, including:
• Scope of Duties of Care
• The consequence of biosecurity failure
• Duty of clinician to warn of genetic risk
• Liability of parent companies in respect of activities of subsidiaries
• Vicarious liability on the retreat
• Achieving consistency between civil and criminal proceedings
This seminar brings together all of these recent cases to critically examine the approaches taken by the courts. Professor Todd will focus on those cases that are likely to have a significant impact on those practicing in New Zealand.
