Manaakitanga in Action: Donate What You CAN ❤️

Last week, our tamariki had the wonderful opportunity to visit our neighbouring community centre and deliver the cans donated through our “Donate What You CAN” appeal. Each child proudly carried a can and personally gifted it to the community centre, experiencing the joy of giving and helping others.

We sincerely appreciate every contribution from our whānau, big or small. Your support helps strengthen our wider community and shows our tamariki that when we work together, we can make a meaningful difference.

This was also a valuable opportunity for our tamariki to learn and practise manaakitanga — showing kindness, generosity, care and respect for others.

We are so proud of our tamariki for demonstrating such wonderful acts of kindness and generosity. ❤️

🧸🩵 PJ Day at the Centre! 👕🌙

The weather has been so cold lately, so what better way to stay warm than with a cozy Pajama Day! ❄️

It was lovely seeing our tamariki arrive in their warm pajamas, fluffy robes, and comfy slippers, ready for a day of fun and learning. Thank you to our wonderful whānau for helping make the day so special—we loved all the smiles and snuggly outfits! 💙

✨🌟 Matariki Celebration Night 🌟✨

What a wonderful evening we had celebrating Matariki together as a community! 💙

Our tamariki, whānau, and kaiako came together to honour the Māori New Year through music, songs, cultural experiences, and shared connections. The night was filled with laughter, learning, reflection, and a sense of belonging as we celebrated the values of remembrance, gratitude, and hope for the future.

A heartfelt thank you to all our whānau who joined us and helped make this event so special. Your support and participation created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

As we look to the stars of Matariki, we reflect on the year that has passed, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with hope and gratitude.

🌿✨ Matariki Learning with Harakeke ✨🌿

Yesterday, we had a special opportunity to explore harakeke (flax), kindly gifted by one of our wonderful whānau as part of our Matariki celebrations.

We began by gathering together to learn about harakeke—what it is and the many ways it has traditionally been used. Tamariki were then shown how to carefully separate the harakeke into two pieces. Each child eagerly took a turn, showing curiosity, perseverance, and a willingness to try something new.

Using combs, tamariki worked patiently to soften and prepare the fibres. This hands-on experience not only required concentration but also supported the development of their fine motor skills as they explored and manipulated the natural materials. Once their headbands were ready, tamariki proudly wore them.

This meaningful experience deepened tamariki’s understanding of this important taonga from te ao Māori, while strengthening their connection to Matariki, whānau contributions, and the rich cultural traditions of Aotearoa. 🌟🌿 See less

🌟 Kapa Haka Festival Experience 🌟
Last Friday, our tamariki had a wonderful time participating in the annual Kapa Haka festival at Birkdale Primary School. The bus ride was full of excitement, and they enjoyed every moment!
They showed patience and respect while waiting for their turn, then performed their waiata with confidence, joy, and energy. Ka pai! We are so proud of each and every one of them 💛
This experience helped strengthen their sense of belonging (Mana Whenua), confidence in self-expression (Mana Reo), and teamwork while supporting one another (Mana Tangata). It was also a great opportunity to be part of a wider community event.

Exploring, Balancing & Growing Together 🌿

This morning we extended our walk to the elephant house where the tamariki discovered new equipment that sparked excitement and curiosity. They challenged themselves by balancing on planks and ropes, supporting and encouraging each other along the way.

A lovely experience that built confidence, coordination, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging. 🌟
