Today marks the beginning of Neurodiversity Celebration Week - a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences.
Founded in 2018 by Siena Castellon, a young autistic advocate who also has ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia, this week is about transforming how neurodivergent people are perceived and supported.
Neurodiversity recognises that neurological differences are natural variations of the human brain. Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other neurodivergences bring unique strengths, perspectives and ways of thinking that enrich our communities.
This week, we celebrate the talents, creativity and determination of neurodivergent people across Aotearoa and around the world. Let’s continue to listen, learn and build inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.
