BayLynn Youth Band is back for 2026! 🎉🎶

We are a fully inclusive music group for students from primary school to university that has performed around the community at rest homes, markets and events such as the BHB Christmas Carnival and Relay for Life.

We are in the process of recruiting new members this year! If you are or know any budding young musicians looking for an inclusive ensemble to develop their skills throughout the year, share this post with them!
We welcome all students from primary school and above who have some music reading skills and can play the following instruments:
•⁠ ⁠Strings (Violin, Viola and Cello)
•⁠ ⁠Brass (Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Horn, Tuba)
•⁠ ⁠Woodwind (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon)
•⁠ ⁠Guitar or Bass Guitar
•⁠ ⁠Drums

The band rehearses every Wednesday during school terms from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Blockhouse Bay Primary Performing Arts Centre! Our first rehearsal is this Wednesday (11th Feb). If you're interested in joining, please email [email protected]

BLYB On This Day… Our First Ever Concert at Selwyn Village! 🌸🌷

Over the next year, we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary by posting some of our finest moments as a band, and our next throwback is a very special one - our first ever performance as a band! 💙🎵

We celebrated Mother’s Day 2015 by playing for our family, friends and residents of Selwyn Village - see if you can spot some alumni that have been with the band since the beginning! 😉

Welcome back to BayLynn Youth Band for Term 2! 🎉

A reminder that rehearsals start tomorrow (Wednesday 30th April) at 6:45pm at Blockhouse Bay Primary and ALL ARE WELCOME! 💙

Celesti (alongside Mr Allen and other alumni) are leading the band while Miss Teh is away and they would really appreciate the support! 🫶🏼

BLYB On This Day… An Afternoon with BGA Big Band & BayLynn Youth Band 🌻

Over the next year, we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary by posting some of our finest moments as a band, and our next throwback was a very special performance with the Bernie G Allen Big Band 🎺

Not only did we get to hear some of New Zealand's finest jazz musicians (including Bruce King, Merv Thomas, Ben Sinclair and Vicky Haughton), we also got to play alongside them! It was a wonderful day of shared music making 💙

BayLynn Youth Band at Hillsborough Heights Retirement Village 💙🎵

Our first performance of the year was at Hillsborough Heights Retirement Village on Saturday 29th March. It was our first time performing here since the pandemic and we were so happy to be invited back! 🌸

A huge thank you to Hillsborough Heights for having us, and a special shoutout to our alumni we joined us for this very special performance! 🥰

Over the next year, we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary by posting some of our finest moments as a band, and our next throwback comes from 2020... a memorable year for all of us 😅

With the help of a metronome, some home practice and our Music Director Zyia-Li Teh's editing skills, BayLynn Youth Band managed to pull together a fun video playing one of our favourite songs from our repertoire... March of the Warbids (arranged by Mr Bernie Allen) ✈️

BLYB On This Day… Relay for Life 💜💛

Over the next year, we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary by posting some of our finest moments as a band, and our next throwback comes from 2016 at the much loved Relay for Life event 🏃🏻‍♀️

Teaming up with , we performed at both events in Auckland to help raise funds for the Cancer Society. It was an amazing way for our band to give back to such a worthy cause 🌼

BayLynn Youth Band’s First Rehearsal of the Year… 2015 vs. 2025 😍

Over the next year, we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary by posting some of our finest moments as a band, and what better way to start off this series by sharing pictures from one of our very first rehearsals in 2015? 🥹

BLYB first started in 2015, after our Music Director Miss Zyia-Li Teh and her music teacher/mentor Mr Bernie Allen QSM realised there was a gap for an all-inclusive music group in the community for young musicians. Interest quickly grew, and the band had its first rehearsal on Wednesday 4th February at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate 💙

Fast forward to now, and we are still so lucky to have Miss Teh and Mr Allen guiding us, as well as our alumni who have been in the band since it first started and are now at university or have full time jobs! 🤭

Welcome back to BLYB for Term 1 2025! 🥳

We hope you all had a great break and are ready for the beginning of our 10th year celebrations! 👀

Remember that we are an all-inclusive group for musicians Year 5 and up of any skill level and that our band is an opportunity to connect with other musicians within the Bay and surrounding areas! 💙

Rehearsals start again on Wednesday 12th February from 6:45pm to 8:30pm at Blockhouse Bay Primary. All are welcome! 🌟
