Doughnut Economics Advocates New Zealand (DEANZ) is a charitable trust that is constantly striving towards meeting the needs of all, in a fair, equitable and environmentally sustainable way. Based on the concept of Doughnut Economics, we are actively pursuing practical and tangible solutions to our ever changing environmental and social needs. Being a fairly young organisation, we have grown rapid
ly from one Repair Cafe in March 2021 to recently opening our eighth. And from one Doughnut Hub in 2022 to four Doughnut Hubs by 2023. Much of the credit for this growth comes down to a broad and experienced range of board members, paid staff and passionate volunteers. A Doughnut Hub is a community based composting and garden facility which reduces household & commercial organic food waste, while increasing the recovery of these useful resources back into the garden where it’s used as fuel to grow healthy and sustainable food. We collaborate closely with schools and the local community to set up Doughnut Hubs. The first pilot hub was setup in 2022, and based at Newton Central School in Auckland. This hub has not only been beneficial to the environment, but it has also been a catalyst for education, inspiration and change for all stakeholders involved - including the students/parents, the staff and the surrounding community and commercial businesses. We decided to scale up our operation and set up three more Doughnut Hub's in Auckland schools, being Fruitvale School in New Lynn, Royal Oak Primary School in Royal Oak and Rangeview Intermediate School in Te Atatu. Please follow our journey and stay tuned to watch these hubs evolve, prosper and offer huge benefits to all. Please follow this link to learn more - https://www.doughnuteconomicsnz.com/
