CanBead Mid and South Canterbury Welcome to our page! We are a registered charity that provides support to those who are experiencing illness, trauma, and loss through the use of art therapy.

Our choice of therapy is beads. Follow us to see our work with other charities in your region. CanBead is a not-for-profit registered charity based in 6 regions in NZ. We are part of The CanInpsire Charitable Trust. We provide jewellery making classes and materials to individuals experiencing illness, trauma or personal loss and their support person. We welcome any offers of assistance or donations related to our work, in particular monetary donations or donations of beads or other jewellery which could be recycled into our CanBead Kits. Assistance is also welcomed from those wishing to volunteer their time in any way they can.

Today we had the pleasure of being hosted by CCS Disability Action and spent a couple of hours creating bracelets and bag tags. Some of the participants had been to a workshop before and we also had some who were attending for the first time.

On Friday we were hosted by Multicultural Aoraki for their second workshop this year. We had 15 new participants and two who had participated in the previous workshop. The ladies had a fabulous time and were very quick to learn new skills. A first for one of our workshops was two of our participants using Chat GPT to design their necklace with the beads they had chosen. Everyone was very grateful and excited to receive a kitbag to take home to continue creating. Thanks to our volunteers Meren and Jean for their expertise and help during the workshop. 💛

✨ The Life Cycle of Unworn Jewellery ✨

Ever wondered what to do with those pieces of jewellery sitting unworn and forgotten in the back of a drawer? 💍📿

At CanBead, we give them a whole new purpose! 💚

Jewellery that is no longer worn is donated to us. We carefully take each piece apart, salvaging beads, charms, chains, findings and all those little treasures that can be given a new life. Everything is sorted into colours, shapes, sizes, types and materials. What might look like a pile of old jewellery to some becomes a treasure trove of possibilities to us! ✨

The pieces are then mixed, matched and transformed into something completely new — beautiful creations made with imagination, creativity and a whole lot of love. ❤️

Those once-unwanted pieces become part of something meaningful, helping us create and connect through our workshops. 🌈✨

We're lucky to meet extraordinary people through our work. Inviting them to our table is a privilege our staff and volunteers never take for granted. Honestly, we come away from every workshop having gained just as much as we've given.

🌟Come along and have fun turning simple materials like beads and driftwood into beautiful creations for your garden. You can make a colourful garden stake, a beautiful beaded birdfeeder and a suncatcher that sparkles in the sunlight. 🐦🌈☀️

This is a wonderful opportunity to get creative, connect with others and make something unique to take home, all while supporting the meaningful work CanBead does in our community.
