Locals Laps – Final Race Wrap-Up
What a finish to the Locals Laps series. We had an awesome turnout, with 41 riders hitting the trails for the final round. Across the four‑race series, 116 different riders took part—bringing plenty of smiles, laughs, friendly competition, and the occasional scrape.
A huge thank‑you to all the club volunteers, and to our generous sponsors for tacks of prizes, and for keeping spirits high with hot chips (thanks Ida Garden Bar & Kitchen). MOA also put race proceeds toward even more giveaways. A huge thanks to Matangi Station MTB for the use of those incredible trails.
Prize Highlights:
- Full Face Helmets: MOA purchased two full‑face helmets from Henderson Cycle & Mower Centre and the lucky random‑draw winners were Toby Longman and Murphy Watt, both absolutely stoked.
- Best Drift at the bottom of Res: Judged by Stu Wightman and awarded to Flynn Sutherland for a drift executed with true malicious intent, gravel flying everywhere. Flynn took home a pair of Deathgrips from Henderson Cycle & Mower Centre.
- Notable Drifts: More Henderson's prizes went to Will Lynes, Marco Hubber, Ted Cuthbertson, and Diesel.
- Mechanical Misery: Ollie Marshall suffered some serious chain‑dropping issues and scored a Shockcraft voucher to at least get those shocks running properly again. Willbike Cycling Central service vouchers went to Oliver Ling and James Stevenson, earned through… let’s call them “bike challenges.”
- Most Spectacular Crash: Awarded to Liam Broome, who won knee pads from Bike It Now (though elbow pads might’ve been more appropriate). Honourable mention to Glen Wright, who gave his bike a solid attempt at self‑destruction. More knee pads were handed out on the night as well.
- Special Mentions: Korey Hunt, who generously donated his prize back into the pool, what a legend. Eli Moir, for the photos and the great shirts.
And to Everyone Else…
There were even more prizes handed out—Maxxis DHR tyre, lights, knee pads—but not all names made it onto the list. If you walked away with something, we hope it made your night.
Thanks to every rider who came out and made the series such a blast. We’ll see you back on the trails soon. And with any luck, by next year the timing system will be behaving itself and the Webscorer subscription will be sorted so we can retire the manual timing sheets.
