Received the following email advice from Tenancy Services
From 1 January 2026, the Tenancy Tribunal will change how certain documents are managed, including Property Management Authorities and Insurance Policies. Previously, these documents may have been treated as “Court File Only” because they contained personal or confidential information not relevant to the claim.
Under the direction of the Principal Tenancy Adjudicator, all documents provided by parties will now form part of the Tribunal file and be disclosed to the other party. The one exception is medical or other confidential information that is provided to support an application for adjournment.
This change reflects the principle of natural justice, which requires that all documents or information filed by either party must be shared with the other party.
The change forms part of a larger Practice Direction published by the Principal Tenancy Adjudicator. Please refer to points 17 – 21 of the attached Practice Direction. This is also available to view on the Ministry of Justice website:

All documents provided in a Tenancy Tribunal application will be fully shared with the other party, except medical or other confidential information used to support an adjournment request.
Applicants are responsible for removing any information they do not want shared and ensuring documents are ready to provide to the other party.
Mandatory information is still required for your application to proceed, including:
Full names and contact details of the parties
Sufficient information to define the nature of your claims
If mandatory information is missing, Tenancy Services cannot process your application.
Before submitting, check that:
You have removed any information you don’t want disclosed
Your documents are ready to share with the other parties.
Please feel free to share this information with your staff/networks.
