Gen Z and the Future of Nepal’s Politics: Reflections from Karnali Utsav
At the 7th edition of Karnali Utsav – Kuda Karnalika, organized by Hriti Foundation, Gen Z leader including federal parliament member came together to discuss the rise of the Gen Z movement, democratic accountability, citizen participation, and the future of political leadership in Nepal.

The discussion highlighted the importance of meaningful youth engagement in governance, evidence-based policymaking, transparency, and transforming civic activism into long-term democratic participation.

अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय युवा दिवसको शुभकामना!

ऋति फाउन्डेसनको एक प्राथमिक कार्यक्षेत्र सार्वजनिक नीति र शासन प्रक्रियामा युवाहरूको सशक्तीकरण हो। यस उद्देश्यअनुसार फाउन्डेसनले विभिन्न कार्यक्रमहरू सञ्चालन गर्दै आएको छ।

नीति र शासनमा युवा (Youth in Policy and Governance – YPG) कार्यक्रममार्फत युवाहरूलाई सार्वजनिक नीति तथा शासन प्रक्रियाका विभिन्न पक्षमा प्रशिक्षित गरिन्छ।

फाउन्डेसनले हरेक वर्ष आयोजना गर्ने कर्णाली उत्सव–कुडा कर्णालीका मा करिब ४० जना युवाहरू स्वयंसेवकका रूपमा जोडिनुहुन्छ। उहाँहरूलाई क्षमता विकासका अन्य विभिन्न कार्यक्रम तथा अवसरहरूमा समेत सहभागी गराउँदै आएका छौँ।

त्यसैगरी, Youth for Accountable Democracy (YAD) कार्यक्रममार्फत कर्णाली प्रदेशका युवाहरूलाई जवाफदेही लोकतन्त्रका लागि पैरवी गर्न प्रेरित गरिन्छ। विभिन्न सन्दर्भमा फैलिने मिथ्या सूचनाको तथ्य जाँचमा पनि युवाहरू सक्रिय रूपमा सहभागी हुनुहुन्छ। उहाँहरूको नेतृत्वमा निर्वाचनका क्रममा गरिएका प्रतिबद्धताहरूको फलोअप तथा निगरानीसमेत हुँदै आएको छ।

फाउन्डेसनले सञ्चालन गर्ने Hriti Internship Program मार्फत पनि युवाहरूलाई सार्वजनिक नीति अध्ययन, अनुसन्धान र संवादमा सहभागी हुने अवसर प्रदान गरिन्छ। प्रत्येक तीन महिनामा नयाँ कोहोर्ट सञ्चालन हुने यस कार्यक्रममा युवाहरूले फाउन्डेसनको कार्यालयमै बसेर सार्वजनिक नीति तथा शासनका विषयमा सिक्ने, अध्ययन गर्ने र संवाद गर्ने अवसर प्राप्त गर्नुहुन्छ।

ऋति फाउन्डेसन स्वयं पनि युवाहरूको नेतृत्व र व्यवस्थापनमा अघि बढिरहेको संस्था हो। हाम्रा हरेक संवाद, कार्यक्रम र पहलमा युवाहरूको अर्थपूर्ण सहभागिता तथा युवाका सवालहरू प्राथमिकताका विषय रहँदै आएका छन्।

Collaboration to Strengthen Civic Engagement in Karnali

Hriti Foundation has begun implementing a new civic engagement initiative in partnership with UNDP Nepal and with support from the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal . The initiative aims to strengthen citizen participation and create meaningful platforms for dialogue between citizens and government in Karnali Province.

As part of the initiative, Hriti Foundation conducted five stakeholder consultation meetings last week, bringing together 50+ stakeholders representing youth and Gen Z, civil society, women-led groups, marginalized communities, local and provincial government, academia, media, and the private sector.

The consultations focused on civic engagement priorities, governance challenges, public accountability, and potential areas for collective advocacy. Stakeholders also discussed the proposed Multi-Stakeholder Civic Engagement Advocacy Platform, including its potential membership, focus areas, and coordination mechanisms.

Five MPs. Five Political Parties. One Shared Vision for Karnali.

At the 7th edition of Karnali Utsav, organized by Hriti Foundation, five Members of the Federal Parliament representing five different political parties came together on the same platform to discuss Karnali’s development priorities, challenges, opportunities, and future.

The dialogue highlighted the importance of moving beyond partisan differences and building a common agenda for Karnali’s development.

साझा विसौनी दैनिकमा प्रकाशित 'सरकार फेरिए, भएन लगानी सम्मेलन' समाचारले कर्णालीमा लगानी प्रवर्द्धनका लागि आवश्यक नीतिगत सुधारको बहसलाई पुनः उजागर गरेको छ।

Hriti Foundation ले गत वर्षदेखि नै कर्णाली प्रदेशको सार्वजनिक–निजी साझेदारी (PPP) ऐन कार्यान्वयन हुन नसकेको र यसका केही प्रावधानहरूले लगानी आकर्षित गर्न बाधा पुर्‍याइरहेको विषय निरन्तर रूपमा उठाउँदै आएको छ। यसका लागि निजी क्षेत्र, विज्ञहरू, तथा प्रदेश सभाको अर्थ तथा प्राकृतिक स्रोत समितिसँग छलफल गरी ऐन परिमार्जनका लागि ठोस सुझावहरू समेत प्रस्तुत गरिएका छन्।

कर्णालीमा लगानी सम्मेलन आयोजना गर्नु मात्र पर्याप्त हुँदैन। दिगो रूपमा लगानी आकर्षित गर्न र सार्वजनिक–निजी साझेदारीमार्फत विकासलाई गति दिन लगानीमैत्री कानुनी तथा नीतिगत वातावरण निर्माण आवश्यक छ। त्यसका लागि विद्यमान PPP ऐनमा समयानुकूल परिमार्जन अपरिहार्य छ।

On 4 August, Hriti Foundation brought together academics, lawyers, provincial government officials, and development partners to discuss the current state of civic engagement in Karnali and explore how we can work together to strengthen citizen participation, collaboration, and democratic governance in the province.

Today, Hriti Foundation convened a consultation with civil society organizations and local government representatives from Karnali Province to discuss the current state of civic engagement.

Representatives from INSEC, KIRDARC Nepal, SAC Nepal, BNA, YGGP, NGO Federation of Nepal, CCR Karnali, WHR Nepal, UMN and Birendranagar Municipality shared their experiences, challenges, and ideas for strengthening civic participation and collaboration across the province.
