🎉 We’re excited to share that Disabled Women Empowerment Center–Kaski successfully conducted an Orientation on Disability Inclusive Justice System under the project “Empowering Mothers Through Advocacy and Networking,” funded by Women’s Fund Asia Limited, in coordination with Independent Living Center–Pokhara.

The orientation brought together women with disabilities, mothers of children with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ representatives, Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), and single mothers to strengthen their understanding of disability-inclusive justice, legal rights, and the importance of accessible and equitable justice systems.

Through interactive discussions and knowledge sharing, participants explored the rights of persons with disabilities, barriers to accessing justice, and the collective responsibility of communities and institutions in ensuring equal access to justice for all. The session also encouraged participants to become advocates for inclusion and to promote a justice system that is accessible, respectful, and free from discrimination.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the participants, facilitators, resource persons, and our coordinating partner, Independent Living Center–Pokhara, for making this orientation meaningful and impactful. Together, we remain committed to empowering women, strengthening advocacy, and building a more inclusive society where everyone can access justice with dignity and equality.

🌟 Three Days of Learning, Collaboration, and Lasting Impact

Every meaningful journey leaves behind knowledge, inspiration, and a renewed commitment to create change. The final day of the Comprehensive Knowledge Exchange on Symbiotic Leadership in Assistive Technology marked not just the conclusion of a three-day program, but the beginning of stronger partnerships and collective action towards an inclusive future.

We were honored by the presence of the Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Gandaki Province, as the Chief Guest, who reaffirmed the importance of accessible infrastructure, inclusive public services, and multi-sector collaboration in ensuring that persons with disabilities can fully participate in every aspect of society.

The day encouraged participants to work together through interactive group discussions, where they reflected on the knowledge gained over the past three days, explored practical solutions to existing challenges, and developed recommendations to strengthen access to assistive technology within their communities and institutions. The exchange of ideas demonstrated that sustainable change is possible when government, academia, service providers, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities work hand in hand.

One of the most memorable moments of the program was the inspiring story shared by Ms. Sandhya Subedi, a wheelchair user, whose personal journey beautifully illustrated the life-changing impact of assistive technology. Her experience showed how the right assistive device can open doors to education, employment, independence, confidence, and active participation in society. Her story reminded everyone that assistive technology is not merely about mobility—it is about unlocking potential, restoring dignity, and creating equal opportunities.

The program concluded with participants sharing their reflections, experiences, and commitments to apply the knowledge gained in their own communities. Beyond presentations and discussions, the three-day exchange fostered new friendships, stronger networks, and a shared vision for a future where everyone has the opportunity to live independently and participate equally.

💙 As we close this chapter, we carry forward a common purpose—to build a society where assistive technology is accessible, affordable, and available to everyone who needs it. Together, we can transform lives, remove barriers, and create a more inclusive tomorrow.

🌟 Day 2 Highlights | Comprehensive Knowledge Exchange on Symbiotic Leadership in Assistive Technology

The second day of the Comprehensive Knowledge Exchange on Symbiotic Leadership in Assistive Technology continued with insightful learning, meaningful discussions, and moments of celebration that strengthened our shared commitment to disability inclusion and accessible assistive technology.

The day commenced with an informative session by Shaligram Timilsina from the Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children (HRDC), who shared valuable insights into the current status of assistive technology in Nepal. Participants learned about the range of assistive devices available, Nepal’s referral system for accessing assistive technology services, and the significant role of HRDC in rehabilitation, service delivery, and improving the lives of persons with disabilities.

The learning journey was complemented by an engaging session on assistive technology facilitated by Subhasini Shrestha, which encouraged participants to explore innovative approaches and practical solutions for improving accessibility, independence, and inclusion for persons with disabilities.

Adding warmth and positive energy to the program, participants enjoyed a lively Bhajan Session performed by a local Bhajan Toli. The devotional music created a joyful atmosphere, with participants enthusiastically singing, clapping, and dancing together, making it a memorable moment of fellowship and cultural celebration.

The day concluded on a special note as participants, guests, and team members came together to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Disabled Women Empowerment Centre–Kaski (DWEC-Kaski). The symbolic lighting of 10 diyas marked a decade of dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to empowering women and persons with disabilities. The celebration served as a moment of reflection on the organization’s journey and a renewed commitment to building a more inclusive, accessible, and equitable future.

✨ Day 2 was a beautiful blend of knowledge, collaboration, culture, and celebration—reinforcing that inclusion is achieved not only through innovation but also through unity and collective action.

🌟 Day 1 Highlights | Comprehensive Knowledge Exchange on Symbiotic Leadership in Assistive Technology

The first day of the Comprehensive Knowledge Exchange on Symbiotic Leadership in Assistive Technology successfully concluded with enthusiastic participation from Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), persons with disabilities using assistive technology, parents of persons with disabilities, final-year mechanical and engineering students from different universities, principals from various schools, government representatives, and representatives of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). The diverse participation created a vibrant platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and cross-sector collaboration.

The program was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Hon. Laxman Bahadur Pandey, Minister for Health, Gandaki Province, who emphasized the importance of ensuring equitable access to assistive technology through strong partnerships among government agencies, local communities, academic institutions, and disability organizations.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in insightful discussions on the concept and different types of assistive technology, the importance of selecting appropriate assistive devices based on individual needs, existing challenges in the implementation and accessibility of assistive technology, practical solutions to overcome these barriers, and the collaborative role of local governments and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities in ensuring that assistive technology reaches everyone who needs it. The sessions also highlighted inspiring practices from local governments that are strengthening disability-inclusive services and improving access to assistive technology at the community level.

The first day concluded with meaningful dialogue, active participation, and a shared commitment to promoting innovation, inclusion, and independent living through accessible assistive technology.

Today, on June 28, the Disabled Women Empowerment Centre–Kaski (DWEC-Kaski) proudly celebrates its 10th Anniversary.

For the past decade, we have remained committed to promoting the rights, dignity, leadership, inclusion, and empowerment of women and girls with disabilities. Every milestone we have achieved reflects the strength of our members, the resilience of the women we serve, and the unwavering support of those who have stood beside us throughout this journey.

As we celebrate this special occasion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Board Members, members, staff, volunteers, well-wishers, national and international partners, donor agencies, supporters, government and non-government organizations, media, community leaders, and everyone who has directly or indirectly contributed to our mission. Your trust, partnership, and encouragement have made this decade of impact possible.

Today, representatives from Disabled Women Empowerment Center–Kaski (DWEC-Kaski) and Independent Living Center–Pokhara paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Gandaki Province, and met with Honorable Minister Govinda Bahadur Nepali and Under-Secretary Muna Adhikari.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss key initiatives focused on promoting accessibility, disability inclusion, and independent living for persons with disabilities in Gandaki Province. DWEC-Kaski presented its proposed training program for engineers on accessible and disability-inclusive infrastructure, while Independent Living Center–Pokhara shared its Home Modification initiative supporting persons with disabilities to live independently and with dignity.

During the discussion, the organizations requested the Ministry to consider incorporating these programs into the upcoming provincial annual development plan and budget framework (Red Book), highlighting their importance for advancing disability-inclusive development in the province.

DWEC-Kaski and CIL-Pokhara expressed appreciation for the positive engagement and commitment of the Ministry and look forward to continued collaboration in strengthening accessibility and inclusion across Gandaki Province.
