Many people donate to charity for whatever reasons. Some do, many don’t as it’s not their business.
Many years ago, we went to Nepal for Buddhists pilgrimage and found peace inside the temple. Once we were out of the temple, we saw many beggars and children asking for foods or selling stuffs that no one needed. Most were orphans, abandoned street kids and didn’t went to school.
We helped to establish The Manjushri Educational Project to support less privileged students who wished to go to school but not able to do so. Contributions were based on trust and transparency and accountability were ensured. Then the Nepal earthquakes came and we persisted in relief efforts with MEP
16 years later, many students graduated from The Manjushri Educational Project, and despite the difficult economic situation, some managed to break out of poverty (and even their villages) to find their own way of survival.
During our recent trip to Japan, I received a message from one of our ex-students that she is working in Osaka and very much wanted to meet us. Malati Tamang, one of our star students managed to get a job and is working to support her family back home and seeking a new job far away from home.
I am so happy to know the students are doing well and glad that everyone benefited from the program.
