Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC funded Quality TVET for Youth (QualiTY) project supported the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training - CTEVT in organising the National Workshop on โ€œInteroperability Framework and Protocol for TVET Digital Ecosystem.โ€

The workshop focused on an interoperability framework that enables different information systems, applications, and databases to communicate and exchange data. In the TVET sector, it will support integrated data systems, analytical dashboards at federal, provincial, and local levels, and strengthen data driven planning and decision making.

Following recommendations from representatives of four government ministries and the private sector during the workshop, the framework will be submitted to CTEVT and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) for endorsement and operationalization. Once endorsed, the framework will allow schools, local government, private sector, government agencies to access data for better planning and implementation with information on school graduates, job vacancies, and employment.

Swisscontact was pleased to participate in the โ€œEU Grants Launch 2026: Supporting Youth Voices, Inclusion, and Democratic Participation in Nepal,โ€ organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal.

The event marked the launch of 11 new EU-funded initiatives that aim to strengthen youth voices, innovation, and inclusive democratic participation across Nepal. We are grateful to the European Union for supporting the Creating Opportunities for Youth in Digital Economy (CODE) project.

Implemented by Swisscontact in Nepal in partnership with Restless Development Nepal and Robotics Association of Nepal [RAN], the CODE project aims to equip youth, especially women and marginalized groups with market-relevant digital skills, entrepreneurship support, and employment opportunities. Through collaboration with local governments, civil society, training providers, and the private sector, the project will help create more inclusive pathways for young people to participate in and benefit from Nepalโ€™s digital transformation.

We create opportunities for young people in Nepal through relevant skills, skills recognition, and employment pathways. As crises in West Asia impact labour migration, skills development remains central to supporting reintegration, resilience, and access to decent work. This May Day, we highlight skills as a foundation for dignity and opportunity.

To learn more about how our skills development agenda is supporting Nepalโ€™s labour market, click here: https://www.swisscontact.org/en/news/west-asia-conflict-and-the-skills-agenda-in-nepal

Each year, nearly 700,000 Nepalese leave the country in search of foreign employment, with around 65 percent, approximately 450,000 individuals heading to Gulf countries. These migrants are vital to Nepalโ€™s economy, contributing 22โ€“25 percent to Nepalโ€™s GDP, with nearly 40 percent of total rem...

We create opportunities for Nepalโ€™s labour market by bridging the gap between training and academia and industry needs. ๐’๐ฐ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐š๐œ๐ญ recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ๐๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ฅ ๐€๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐œ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ˆ๐ง๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐“๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ (๐๐€๐’โ€‘๐ˆ๐“).

This collaboration marks an important step in our efforts to support the countryโ€™s growing digital ecosystem. Through this partnership, we aim to build sustainable workforce pipelines, where private sector actors take ownership of shaping and upgrading the skills ecosystem.

The collaboration will help ensure that training and education are closely aligned with real workplace needs. We look forward to the collective impact this collaboration will create for Nepalโ€™s digital landscape.

Instead of relying on a single source, different public actors are now contributing together to support skills recognition, making it more structured, shared, and sustainable.

Across Nepal, many workers have built strong technical skills through years of hands-on experience. However, without formal recognition, these skills are often undermined. Co-funding helps bridge this gap by enabling the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) processes to reach more people and be implemented more effectively.

This coordinated approach is also strengthening collaboration between institutions and aligning public investment more closely with real skills needs in the labour market.
It is a practical step toward making skills systems more inclusive, transparent, and responsive.

Read more about this approach and its implications here:

Across Nepal, many workers develop valuable skills not through formal education but through years of practical experience. These competencies sustain livelihoods and local economies, yet without formal certification, workers often face barriers to better employment opportunities, fair wages, social....
