ProPeace is an international movement of socially conscious people who are actively engaged in facilitating and promoting D.I.O development. D.I.O stands for Doing It Ourselves and represents a practical, solution- focused approach to community development. D.I.O development challenges us to not become distracted by the things we have no power to control, but rather focus our energy on the things
around us that we can. Our projects empower communities to implement sustainable economic, social and environmental solutions that not only improve their standard of living but contribute to a more equitable and resource efficient world. Our projects are needs-based and designed to strategically and collaboratively extend on the capacity of local communities in with which we work. ProPeace promote hand ups over not hand outs and our community development strategies are based around the idea of facilitation. The practicalities of strategies is up to communities to implement in order to sustainably meet their future needs, so when it does come time to pass the baton they are equipped with all the knowledge and expertise needed to keep on running. ProPeace takes a contextual approach to project design and focuses developmental activity on strengthening local skills, knowledge, industry and infrastructure in a way that can continue long after our programs are competed and we ensure this is possible by ensuring community participation and ownership of our projects occur from the initial stages with our projects being designed in collaboration with communities. Currently, we are working on our first project in Madanpur and are in the process of designing a Sustainable Living Centre that will be utilsed as an educational resource, community space and accommodation for those involved in our projects.
