Born in the shadow of the world’s highest mountain, Pasang's quest for Everest reveals the many layers of opposition and entrenched structural inequities faced by women and indigenous people to claim the right to their own land and pursuits. As told by the Nepalis who knew her, by some of the world’s most notable alpinists, and by Pasang herself, PASANG: In the Shadow of Everest, documents her historic quest that would transfix her country and uplift a new generation’s belief in its possibilities.

We’re incredibly proud to see Dawa Futi Sherpa continuing her mother’s legacy of courage, resilience, and leadership. As the daughter of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa - the first Nepali woman to summit Everest - Dawa carries forward a story that changed history and inspired generations of women in the Himalayas and beyond.

Today, as president of the Pasang Lhamu Foundation, Dawa is a leader in her own right, using her voice to advocate for education, opportunity, and the preservation of her mother’s extraordinary legacy. At the May 31 U.S. Embassy, Nepal Ascent Summit 2026 in Kathmandu, she will be moderating this important conversation on leadership.

We also honor the trailblazing achievements of Lhakpa Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to summit Everest and return safely, whose accomplishments continue to inspire climbers around the world.

🏔️✨ We’re so excited to follow along as Ang Dorjee Sherpa, Pasang’s eldest brother, his daughter Sabrina, and other trekkers make their way to Everest base camp in support of the Pasang Lhamu Foundation fundraiser “Journey with Purpose”.

Here the group gathers in front of the first entry gate to the Khumbu Everest region named after Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Sherpa women to summit My Everest and the hero of our film Pasang Movie.
