The world’s highest mountains are some of the most breathtaking places on Earth, but they’re also some of the most fragile.

As more and more people have taken to the mountains, the amount of waste left behind has grown too. Tents, oxygen cylinders, climbing equipment and rubbish can all be found on some of the world’s most iconic peaks.

Nimsdai believed that climbing these mountains came with a responsibility to protect them.

And that belief became the Big Mountain Clean Up.

Since it began, we’ve worked alongside local communities and partners to remove more than 1,600kg of waste from Everest, K2 and Manaslu, helping to protect these extraordinary environments for future generations.

It’s something we’re incredibly proud of, but there is still so much more to do. And it doesn’t have to be on an 8,000-metre mountain.

Through our local Trash Treks, we bring that same idea closer to home, getting people together to pick up litter from our beaches and local communities.

Because whether it’s Everest, a local beach, or the park around the corner, these are places we all enjoy, and we all have a responsibility to look after them.

It was something Nimsdai cared deeply about, and it’s something we’ll continue.

Having passed through Lobuche countless times on expeditions, Nimsdai saw something that never sat right with him.

High in Nepal’s Sagarmatha National Park, at around 5,000 metres, Lobuche sits on the route towards Everest Base Camp.

While climbers and trekkers had lodges to rest in, the porters carrying the equipment, food and supplies that made those journeys possible often had nowhere suitable to stay. Many would walk around 10 kilometres to Pheriche just to find somewhere to sleep, before making the climb back up the following day.

The only alternative was an old corrugated metal shed that offered little protection from the harsh mountain conditions.

Nimsdai believed the people who made the mountains accessible deserved better.

In 2024, that belief became the Lobuche Porter House project, with a vision to create a safe, warm place where porters could rest and recover with the dignity they deserved.

Two years later, in May 2026, with the incredible support of our donors and partners, that vision became a reality and we officially opened the Porter House.

The Lobuche Porter House is more than a building. It represents Nimsdai’s deep respect for Nepal’s mountain communities and his determination to give back to the porters who play such an important role in the mountains.

Since Nimsdai founded the Nimsdai Foundation in 2022, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredible communities, partners and people to turn his belief into action: that together, we can redefine what is possible.

And together, we’ve achieved a lot.

We’ve removed over 1,600kgs of waste from some of the world’s highest mountains through our Big Mountain Clean Up expeditions, because these extraordinary places deserve to be protected for generations to come.

We’ve helped girls access reusable period products and menstrual health education, giving them the confidence and dignity to stay in school without their period holding them back.

We’ve taken veterans into the mountains, using adventure, challenge and connection to help rebuild confidence, resilience and a renewed sense of purpose.

We’ve helped young people access education, from scholarships and school resources to creating safer places for children to learn in some of Nepal’s most remote communities.

And when communities have faced some of their most difficult moments, from natural disasters to tragedies in the mountains, we’ve been there to support however we can.

Behind every one of these projects are real people, communities and stories, and so many people who have helped make them possible.

We’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved so far, but there is still so much more we want to do.

We’ll continue the work Nimsdai started, guided by the same belief that has been at the heart of the Foundation from the very beginning: to redefine what is possible and create lasting change.

The Nimsdai Foundation was founded by Nims with a simple belief: that success isn’t just about the summits we reach, but the lives we help change along the way.

Everything we do is built around three principles: Inspire, Educate, and Protect.

For us, that means giving back to the mountain communities that meant so much to Nims. It means creating opportunities for young people, protecting the incredible places we’re lucky enough to explore, supporting veterans as they rebuild confidence and find a renewed sense of purpose, and being there for communities when they need it most.

Since the Foundation began, we’ve been incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, but there is still so much more we want to do. And, as Nims would say, nothing is impossible.

With our communities, partners, incredible fundraisers, volunteers and everyone who supports us, we’ll keep moving forward and continue the work Nims started.

This is Nims’ legacy. And together, we’ll keep building it💚

Losing Nims is something that is incredibly difficult to put into words. Like so many others around the world, we are heartbroken.

We want to thank every person around the world who has taken the time to send messages of love, kindness and support. It means a great deal.

The world knew Nims as the extraordinary mountaineer who achieved what many believed could never be done. We had the privilege of knowing the person behind those achievements. A man who brought an energy into every room, inspiring everyone around him.

We are immensely proud of everything we achieved together, and we remain committed to ensuring that our mission and his legacy ‘to redefine what is possible’ continues as he would have expected.

During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts, and those of everyone at the Foundation, remain with the families, friends and loved ones of all those who tragically lost their lives on Broad Peak.

Today, the Nimsdai Foundation launches the Broad Peak Guides' Family Support Fund.

In the midst of our own profound grief following the loss of our founder, Nims Purja MBE, our thoughts remain with every family who has lost a loved one in the Broad Peak avalanche.

Behind every mountain guide and member of the mountain team is a family now facing unimaginable heartbreak.

Nims believed that our greatest achievements were not only the summits we reached, but the lives we touched along the way. In his memory, and in keeping with our charitable mission to support those affected by major climbing disasters, we are asking our global community to help us stand beside the families of those who tragically lost their loved ones.

This appeal is dedicated to supporting the families of the guides lost in the Broad Peak avalanche (excluding Nims' family), helping to ease the financial burden they now face and reminding them that the mountain community stands together.

If Nims ever inspired you, please help us honour his legacy, not through words, but through compassion.

Together, we can ensure that even in the darkest moments, hope endures.

A huge congratulations to our founder, Nimsdai Purja and the entire Elite Exped team on their successful summit of Gasherbrum II (8,035m) on 21 July.

Despite challenging conditions throughout the expedition, the team showed remarkable resilience, determination and teamwork to stand together on the summit before safely returning to Base Camp.

For Nimsdai Purja, this summit is about so much more than reaching another mountain top. It marks another major milestone in his extraordinary Hat Trick Project, an ambitious challenge to become the first person to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks three times and complete the Seven Summits three times, all while raising vital funds to support the work of the Nimsdai Foundation.

With just Cho Oyu remaining, he’s now only one summit away from completing this historic challenge.

We’re incredibly proud of everything Nimsdai Purja and the team have achieved and so grateful that this remarkable journey is helping create opportunities and change lives through the Foundation’s work.
