About 6/7 kilometers from Kathmandu city limit (ring road) to the south in the lalitpur district lies the village of Khokana. The village represents the richness of the early Malla era (13th century). About 4471 indigenous people inhabit in Khokana. The male and female ratio is 28:31 and 22:21. The 13th century old Newar settlement of Khokana is famous for producing mustard oil. There is no centra
l square, as in near by village Bungamati but there’s plenty of action in the main street, including women spinning wool. The main temple is a two tiered construction dedicated to Shekali Mai – a mother goddess. The temple of Rudrayani is the major religious site but ponds have also equally religious importance. Locals also are also involved in making wooden handicrafts, which has helped them for their living. These wooden handicrafts are later sold to the tourists and brought to Kathmandu for getting it to the market. Museum: There’s a small museum maintained by a local person (Mr. Madan Krishna Maharjan) in, which he’s put the tipical jewellery sets and agriculture farming tools. This building was built 100 years ago and is the only house, which was not destroyed by the BS 1990
