Flash floods tore through Dhading District, sweeping away homes, farmland, and vital infrastructure in their path.

DCA Nepal has been on the ground in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, working alongside local authorities to assess the damage and understand what affected families need most.

Together with Action Nepal, we've distributed emergency shelter items, tents and tarpaulins, to households who lost their homes, helping them access safety and protection when they needed it most.

As the response moves into recovery, DCA and Action Nepal will keep working with Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality and stakeholders on WASH interventions and longer-term recovery efforts, so communities can restore essential services and build resilience against future disasters.

DCA Nepal team, together with Action Nepal, is supporting WASH activities to restore safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for communities in holding centres of district.

The floods severely damaged water and sanitation infrastructure, affecting thousands households, washing away the pipelines and sump wells, and disrupting essential services across affected communities.
Through ongoing support, safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services are being restored. At the Pokhare Khola Holding Centre in Gajuri, four toilets are ready for use.

The DCA Nepal team, together with Action Nepal, visited two holding centers in Dhading to assess the needs of families displaced by recent flash flood.

At Galchi-4, 84 households are sheltering in a public holding center, facing challenges related to overcrowding, limited sanitation facilities, lack of privacy, and safety concerns for women and girls. At Galaudi, Gajuri-5, 42 households whose homes were destroyed by flood are living in family tents, with ongoing needs for lighting, improved WASH facilities, and support for vulnerable groups.

Across both sites, we identified pregnant and lactating women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and children requiring additional support. School children have also lost essential learning materials.

Based on the assessment, DCA will continue coordinating with partners and authorities to address critical needs, including:

- Improved access to safe drinking water and WASH facilities
- Safe and gender-sensitive sanitation facilities
- Enhanced lighting and privacy for displaced families
- Educational and recreational materials for children
- Targeted support for vulnerable groups, including pregnant and lactating women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and people with chronic illnesses

The scale of need following the recent flash floods in Nepal is immense, and Galchi Rural Municipality is just one of many communities facing devastating impacts.

“The recent flash flood has severely affected Galchi Rural Municipality. I appeal to international organisations to come forward and provide urgently needed relief assistance to the affected communities,” said Purna Prasad Dulal, Chief Administrative Officer of Galchi Rural Municipality.

DCA Nepal with local partner Action Nepal is working closely with the Government of Nepal, local authorities, and local partners to deliver timely humanitarian assistance to affected families. Alongside emergency relief efforts, we are jointly assessing needs and planning for early recovery to help communities restore livelihoods, rebuild homes, and recover with dignity.

The needs on the ground extend far beyond any single municipality, organisation, or response. Continued coordination, solidarity, and support from the humanitarian and international community will be critical to ensuring assistance reaches those who need it most.

Nepal Flash Flood 2026: Reaching Communities When They Need It Most!
As a humanitarian organisation, DCA Nepal along with Action Nepal has been actively engaged in flash flood relief efforts across affected districts of Nepal.

Within 72 hours of the disaster, DCA, together with its local partner Action Nepal, reached Nuwakot with emergency relief supplies, including family tents and solar lights for affected families.

In Dhading, relief assistance included: food packages containing rice, lentils, salt, spices, cooking oil, and soya chunks, family tents, and trampolines for affected families and children.

We continue to work closely with local partners, communities, and government authorities. Every relief package represents more than material assistance. It is a message to affected families that they are not alone.

The flash floods across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and downstream districts have claimed 332 lives so far, with 644 people still missing. In these districts, around 10,000 households have been directly affected. The full scale of loss and damage is still being assessed.

"More than 200 houses have been swept away in my area. Nobody stays here at night: they stay higher up with relatives, neighbours, or outside. With this much debris and garbage, there's also a risk of hazardous diseases spreading in the coming days. There is a need for everything in this community, as people are left with nothing."

Within the first 72 hours of the emergency, DCA Nepal and local partner Action Nepal mobilised for immediate, life-saving support to affected communities in Nuwakot and Dhading, working in close coordination with local authorities and disaster management mechanisms.

In Dhading, based on requests from the Chief District Officer (CDO) and the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), DCA supplied 100 pairs of gumboots, 120 dead body management bags, 20 pickaxes, 20 shovels, 50 boxes of gloves, and 6 boxes of masks to support ongoing emergency response efforts.

As communities face loss, uncertainty, and hardship, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected in Nepal and across the border in China. Together with concerned authorities, humanitarian partners, and local responders, we urge all stakeholders to work collectively to strengthen search and rescue efforts and provide timely assistance to affected communities.

Our team and partners are mobilising to support the response with life-saving emergency assistance for communities affected by the floods in the impacted districts.
