Day 1:
Safeguarding Orientation Program Held for Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Participants:
The National Olympic Academy (NOA) of Nepal, in association with the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), organized a Safeguarding Orientation Program today at the NOC Building for athletes and officials preparing to participate in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Tej Bahadur Gurung, President of the National Olympic Academy, who welcomed all the participants and emphasized the importance of creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in sport.
The orientation featured presentations by Ms. Prativa Joshi, Member of the National Olympic Academy, Dr. Pramila Thapa, Member of the National Olympic Academy, and Mr. Sujan Lal Shrestha, Director of the National Olympic Academy. The speakers discussed the principles of safeguarding in sport, highlighting the prevention of harassment and abuse, the protection of athletes' rights and well-being, and the collective responsibility of athletes, coaches, managers, and officials in fostering a safe sporting environment.
During the session, Mr. Ramji Bahadur Shrestha, Deputy Secretary General of the Nepal Olympic Committee, was introduced as Nepal's Safeguarding Officer for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. His role will be to ensure that safeguarding measures are effectively implemented and that athletes and officials have access to appropriate support throughout the Games.
The first session was attended by coaches, managers, and athletes from Swimming, Badminton, Archery, Kabaddi, and Table Tennis.
The second session included participants from Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, and Squash. In the program representatives of National Sports Council were also present.
The orientation program is part of the Nepal Olympic Committee's ongoing commitment to ensuring that every member of Nepal's contingent is well-informed about safeguarding policies and practices before departing for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Similar sessions will be conducted for participants from the remaining sports in the coming days.
