Learning, reflection, and collaboration came together as Shangri-La Development Association conducted a 3-day Capacity Building Training for its staff, facilitated by Visionary Voice, to strengthen professional skills and promote ethical, community-centered development practices.

Focused on human rights, communication, leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, and safeguarding (PSEA), the training created a space for staff to exchange experiences, challenge perspectives, and strengthen the way they engage with communities. Through interactive group discussions, role plays, and practical exercises, participants connected these concepts to real-life field experiences.

The strengthened skills and shared insights will continue to shape more impactful work in the field.

Shangrila Development Association’s EC team, Chairperson Prakriti Bhandari and Secretary Dashrath Ghimire, recently conducted a monitoring visit for the Jumla Special Children Project in Jumla.

During the visit, they met with the School Management Committee, teachers, and the JSCP team at Karnali Secondary School to review project progress, discuss challenges, and explore ideas for the next phase. The team also visited the homes of deaf children supported by the project, spending time with their families and learning more about their daily lives, aspirations, and the support they need for the future.

The visit strengthened collaboration between the school, families, and SDA, reaffirming a shared commitment to advancing inclusive education and expanding opportunities for deaf children in the Karnali region.

Promoting sustainable farming practices 🌱

On 22 February 2026, the SDA Agriculture Project conducted an Organic Farming and Vegetable Seeds Distribution Training for 14 farmers from Lalupate, Ambatar, Khirki, and Himala Farmers’ Groups in Kailash Rural Municipality.

Facilitated by Agriculture Officer Sudip Bhatta, the session covered key organic farming practices, soil management, bio-fertilizers, and the environmental impacts of chemical fertilizers.

Healthy habits start young🧼

In early January 2026, Shangri-La Development Association (SDA) conducted School Screening and Hygiene Support activities in three community schools of Kailash Rural Municipality. The initiative reached 241 students from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to primary level.

A total of 241 students received personal hygiene materials such as combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and handkerchiefs. Alongside the distribution, practical demonstrations were also conducted to help children understand the importance of daily self-care for their health and well-being.

Shangri-La Development Association successfully conducted a three-day Reusable Sanitary Pad Training from 20–22 January 2026. The program was attended by 26 participants, including 21 students from Shree Bhawani Secondary School (including Child Club members), three Female Community Health Volunteers, and two members of the Mothers’ Group.

The training aimed to promote safe menstrual hygiene practices, empower young women through skill-based learning, and encourage self-reliance. The initiative also emphasized environmental sustainability by reducing dependence on disposable sanitary products and minimizing waste.
