~ SAMBHAV UPDATE ~

A day of connection, learning, and joy 🤝🏀⚽🎬

Last week, our youth continued their journey at Arise and Shine, engaging in the “Me and My Future” series where they explored important life lessons on agreements and contracts- building awareness for responsible decision-making in their future paths.

Beyond learning, the day was filled with energy and teamwork through futsal and basketball, followed by the inspiring movie “Swapped” , which reflected themes of empathy, kindness, teamwork, and breaking prejudice to build stronger communities.
The day was more than just a session—it was about meeting new people, sharing laughter, learning together, and growing into a positive youth community.

🌌 Khulla Akash: The Different Us 🌍

SAMBHAV project holds weekly safe spaces for sharing called Khulla Akash, meaning Under the open sky. This past session was on the topic "The Different Us," in which our youth champions came together not just to talk but to see society differently.

Through the lens of intersectionality, our youth stepped into different lives, roles, and realities 👣. They experienced how identity can shape respect, opportunity, safety, and dignity in very different ways.

From “Different Us” to “Power Walk,” the session opened deep reflections on privilege, marginalization, and the invisible systems that shape our everyday lives.

It wasn’t just an activity—it was a moment of awareness, empathy, and facing the sometimes uncomfortable but necessary truth.

Because understanding “the different us” is the first step toward building a more equal “we” 🤝💙.

🌧️🌊 Building Resilience Together in Lamjung 🌊🌧️

Nepal is prone to landslides and floods, and every year, thousands of lives are affected, especially in vulnerable areas like Lamjung and Manang during the monsoon season.

As HDCS’s presence is established in Lamjung, we are committed to fostering resilience and strengthening preparedness in our communities. With the monsoon approaching, HDCS-Namuna Community Hospital staff joined hands with local officials, Nepal Army, and security agencies in a mass monsoon disaster rescue simulation along the Marsyangdi River in Besishahar Municipality 1, Gaikhure waterfall.

👥 The exercise, held on Jestha 13 (27th May), brought together the District Police Office Lamjung, Armed Police Force Nepal, Province Hospital Lamjung, and HDCS-Namuna Community Hospital in Sundarbazar. It was graced by Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Khanal and District Coordination Committee Chief Purn Bahadur Gurung.

đźš‘ During the practice, participants demonstrated search, rescue, relief management, coordination, and first aid techniques to prepare for floods and landslides. Local representatives, health workers, and community members were actively engaged, making the exercise a true collective effort.

✨ Organizers believe these simulations will greatly enhance disaster preparedness and minimize risks during the monsoon season—helping communities stay safer, stronger, and more resilient.

💪✨ New city. New responsibilities. New beginnings

The first week in Kathmandu for our SAMBHAV participants was not just about reaching a destination, but it was about learning how to navigate a completely new chapter of life. From exploring transportation routes, visiting and enrolling in their training institutes, to learning how city life works, every small step became part of their growth journey.

At the hostel, participants came together to create their own duties, responsibilities, and shared living systems, learning that independence also comes with accountability, teamwork, and respect for one another.

For many of them, this is their very first experience living away from home. And slowly, they are not only learning skills for employment, but they are also learning confidence, responsibility, adaptability, and how to build a life together as a community.

Because transformation does not happen only inside classrooms, sometimes it begins while figuring out a bus route, cooking together, managing responsibilities, and courageously stepping into the unknown .

🥣✨ Promoting Healthy Eating, Preventing Non‑Communicable Diseases

HDCS, through the Step Up and Scale Up Project at Namuna Community Hospital, recently supported a 4‑day Nutrition and Mix Satu Making Training at Bhotewodar Community Learning Center, Lamjung.

With participation from local school representatives, women health volunteers, and 18 community women, the training focused on reducing non‑communicable diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease by encouraging healthy eating and lifestyle practices.

🌾 Participants gained both theoretical and hands‑on experience in preparing a mix called "Satu" (a mixture of pulses and grains) and other nutritious dishes using local resources. They also explored how these skills can be transformed into business opportunities, creating pathways for self‑employment and income generation.

The closing ceremony, chaired by Madhu Kumari Bhattarai and graced by Sundarbazar Municipality Chief Krishna Prasad Koirala, emphasized the importance of nutritious diets and lifestyle changes for healthier communities. Certificates were distributed to all participants.

This initiative reflects HDCS’s commitment to empowering communities with knowledge, skills, and opportunities—building healthier lives through local solutions. 🌱💪

🌱✨ SAMBHAV Champions – Cohort 2 have officially begun their journey with HDCS!

Before diving into vocational training in Kathmandu, we believe in building people first.
Our participants recently completed the two‑day “First Steps” sessions at Kothjahari Organic Farm—a space to pause, reflect, connect, and prepare for the road ahead.

Through activities like River of Life, they explored their personal stories, struggles, dreams, and purpose. They also learned about teamwork, group dynamics, and what it means to grow together as a community during their six‑month stay in Kathmandu.

These sessions are more than orientation—they are the foundation for trust, self‑discovery, leadership, and transformation. Because real empowerment begins when young people are seen, heard, valued, and given the space to grow. 🌟

HDCS–Namuna Community Hospital: Empowering Leaders for Mental Wellness

Mental health often remains invisible in our communities, its impact underestimated and overlooked. Yet today, more than ever, it is a vital part of overall health and well-being. HDCS believes that community leaders and those in positions of authority must be equipped with the right knowledge and training—so they can be a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear for those who need to share, and a steady guide in responding to mental health crises while keeping communities safe.

To put this belief into action, HDCS-Namuna Community Hospital recently provided essential psychosocial counseling training to local police personnel, empowering them to support, encourage, and positively impact countless lives.
