Last week, Teach For Nepal Fellows from all four clusters gathered in Kathmandu for their Mini Learning Institute - a four-day community of practice, where Fellows share and learn from each other. The gathering provided a space for Fellows to reflect on their classroom experiences, exchange best practices, and discuss ongoing challenges.

Key highlights of the four days included experts and alumni led sessions, subject specific sessions and learnings, reflections about their journey in the community as Fellows in the first three months of the new academic year. Sikai Dabali became a space for Fellows to dive deeper into their interventions and experiments in their schools and communities. This time, Sikai Dabali was also enhanced by the presence of Collaborative Schools Network (CSN), Helambu Education Livelihood Partnership (HELP) and Open Learning Exchange Nepal (OLE Nepal), who shared technical knowledge and educational tools with the Fellows.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Kathmandu Model College (KMC) for providing venue support and assisting throughout the event. Thank you to all the education experts, partners, supporters and alumni who contributed their time and knowledge to make these four days impactful.

Walkathon 2026 happened because of people like you-and we are so, so grateful. πŸ™

On August 1st, 750+ young Nepalis walked 5 km through the streets of Kathmandu-in silence, in solidarity, and in remembrance of the children across rural Nepal who walk hours every day just to reach a classroom. The energy, warmth, and collective commitment in that space was something truly special.

To everyone who made this day possible:
> To every participant who showed up and walked with us: Thank you. You made this day what it was.
> To our incredible volunteers: None of this happens without your dedication, heart, and hard work behind the scenes.
> To our partners: Our deepest gratitude to Chhaya Center, ISS, and Ujan Shakya Wo Emerge for making August 1st everything it was. ❀️

The real barefoot journey continues through the Teach For Nepal Fellowship-a two-year commitment to live within a rural community, learn alongside local teachers and families, and walk with the students who need you the most.

πŸ”₯ Applications for the 15th Cohort of Teach For Nepal Fellows are now OPEN.

If you have completed your undergraduate degree-or know someone in your circle who has-this could be your most meaningful step forward. Share this, pass it on, and join the movement.

On this auspicious day of Guru Purnima, we celebrate the transformative power of teaching and the lifelong journey of learning.

In their placement communities, Teach For Nepal Fellows step into classrooms every day as mentors and guides to their students. But within our placement schools and villages, learning is never a one-way street.

While our Fellows share knowledge and inspire young minds, they quickly discover that they are surrounded by teachers of their own. From local school colleagues sharing years of classroom wisdom, to parents and community elders offering lessons in resilience, local culture, and community strength-the community itself becomes their greatest guru.

It is this spirit of humility, mutual respect, and continuous learning that truly enriches the TFN Fellowship experience. Education flourishes not when we simply teach, but when we remain open to learning from everyone around us.

Today, as we mark Guru Purnima, we honor 13th and 14th Cohort Fellows alongside the incredible local teachers, parents, and community members who guide them every step of the way. πŸ™πŸŒΌ

At Teach For Nepal, quality education extends beyond textbooks to build practical life skills, patience, and financial literacy.

TFN Fellow Soni Lama Tamang, teaching science in Manpang, Tanahun, introduced a crochet project to her students. What began with learning basic stitches quickly grew into designing hair accessories, keychains, and headbands, culminating in their very own "Crochet Stall" during the school exhibition.

By making, pricing, and successfully selling their products, the students earned their own income for the very first time. These were entrepreneurial and financial skills that students were learning by doing.

Watching their confidence soar was a powerful reminder of what young minds can achieve when given the tools and encouragement to explore! πŸ’›

At Teach For Nepal, our Fellows take initiative wherever support is needed-both inside and outside the classroom.

During his leisure class right before the tiffin break, Chaudhary (Fellow at Ghyangphedi Secondary School, Nuwakot) steps into the kitchen to help the staff prepare mid-day meals for the students.

Joining in on meal prep is more than just lending a hand; sharing conversations and laughs over the kitchen counters helps Sugrim build strong bonds and get to know his school colleagues, staff, and students much better. It’s these daily moments of shared effort that bring the school community closer together. πŸ’›
