OMEP Nepal is deeply shocked and concerned about the violent response to recent peaceful protests in Kathmandu. Demonstrators, including uniformed students, were met with tear gas, water cannons, rubber bullets, and live ammunition. These actions are described as serious violations of human rights and international law. At least 19 people have died, and many others remain critically injured.

The protests began peacefully at Maitighar Mandala, driven by youth anger over corruption, lack of accountability, and suppression of free speech. Instead of addressing these concerns through dialogue, the government imposed curfews and used excessive force.

OMEP Nepal extends condolences to the families of the victims.
