Walking for peace, playing for unity, and standing up for Nepal. ✌️⚽

To mark the International Day of Peace on 21st of September, PBI Nepal joined hands with our CPS partners Kurve Wustrow and GIZ Nepal in Kathmandu for a peace walk and a friendly futsal match played under special peace rules.

This year, our steps mean even more as we celebrated peace, our hearts were with the communities across Nepal affected by the recent floods.

On this day we stand in solidarity with communities affected by the recent flash floods in central Nepal.

Schedule:
📍 Meeting Point: Sahid Sukraraj Salik, Teku, Kathmandu – 09:50 a.m.
🚶 Peace Walk: from Sahid Sukraraj Salik to Visionova Futsal Field – starting 10:00 a.m.
⭐ Main Venue: Visionova Futsal Field, 10:45 a.m. – 06:00 p.m.

What to expect:
- A community peace walk (3 kilometers)
- Friendly futsal games with peace rules
- Live music performances

Be our next Finance Coordinator ! 📊

Peace Brigades International (PBI) Nepal is looking for someone to lead the financial management, budgeting, compliance, and reporting of the Country Office in Lalitpur.

You'll work closely with the country team, partner organizations, auditors and external stakeholders to ensure that all financial operations continue to comply with national and international requirements and regulations, while also scaling up their impact. Your work will directly support our work protecting Human Rights Defenders and strengthening nonviolent conflict transformation in Nepal.

What we are looking for:

-At least 5+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or grants management

-Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CA/ACCA/CPA is a plus)

-Experience with INGOs/NGOs and/or donor-funded programs

-Knowledge of Nepal financial regulations, SWC procedures & taxation

-Fluency in English and Nepali is a must

Recent flash floods in Central Nepal have swept away entire villages and taken hundreds of lives, with the death toll still rising and thousands missing. Many people have been left without shelter. While rescue missions are ongoing, the survivors of this tragedy are dependent on external support.

On this International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, we remember the victims and the bereaved.

More than 3,000 cases of enforced disappearances from Nepal's conflict remain unresolved. The Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) has registered 3,223 complaints covering 3,250 missing people, yet it has not been able to clarify the fate of a single disappeared person or hold anyone accountable. Many families are still waiting for the truth, and in the meantime face serious legal struggles around inheritance, property, and citizenship, as their missing loved ones remain officially unrecognized by the state.

Our partner organization Advocacy Forum-Nepal plays a vital role in changing this. They provide legal aid, document human rights violations and bring cases in notice of international bodies to fight impunity. Through this work, they amplify victims' voices and continue to advocate for the fulfillment of the State’s obligations under international law.

Peace Brigades International Nepal stands in solidarity with everyone affected by the devastating floods across central Nepal.

On August 26, a catastrophic flash flood was triggered along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. In several areas, settlements were swept away, and hundreds remain missing as search and rescue operations continue.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragedy and with the families still searching for missing loved ones.

Thank you to the communities, rescue teams, health care workers and volunteers working tirelessly to help those in need.

Please be mindful about what you share and be aware of whether it could cause further harm to people in need.

Ganga Sharma is currently studying law at the bachelor's level in Surkhet, and after she graduates, she aims to take the bar exam and become a full-time advocate. In about five years, she sees herself continuing her journey as a Women Human Rights Defender with a degree in hand.

During her mentorship with Advocacy Forum-Nepal this past year, one moment stayed with her the most: visiting the Conflict Victim Memorial Park. Standing there, she found herself imagining what it must feel like to lose someone close, to carry that kind of loss. That moment changed something in her.

It's what pushes her now to keep going, to defend human rights and stand with the people who are still fighting, still waiting, and still demanding justice.

This year's International Youth Day theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," is basically PBI's work in one line. The situations look completely different depending on where we are, but what people want is the same: . To do this work without fear, to be heard, to have some say in what happens next!

So today is the day for them. The young people who aren't waiting for permission — they're already making things better themselves.
