Were you at the International Youth Day celebrations in Kathmandu, organised by European Union in Nepal, last week?

We're glad to share that at the EU Youth Fest held on August 12, we officially launched our EU-funded Creating Opportunity for Youth in the Digital Economy (CODE) project.

The event brought 1,600+ participants closer to technology and innovation, with interactive stalls showcasing 3D printing, drone simulations, robotics, speed mentorship sessions, and much more. CODE is about creating pathways for young people to build digital competencies, connect with opportunities, and play an active role in Nepal's digital future.

Nepal's digital economy is creating new job opportunities every day, but are our youth well equipped to grab these opportunities? The answer lies in understanding the real gap between what employers need and what job seekers can offer.

A rapid market assessment in Madhesh and Gandaki provinces was conducted to identify the demand for digital skills and the finding stated that any training on digital skills need to be practical and industry-relevant. The other gap was the need to address the specific barriers faced by women, adolescent girls, and returnee migrants in accessing digital jobs.

The European Union in Nepal funded project, Creating Opportunity for Youth in Digital Economy (CODE) is working to ensure young people learn practical skills to help them become employable.
Swisscontact conducted another validation workshop to test the practicality of these findings in collaboration with Aadyanta Advisory, bringing together government officials, private companies, training institutes, development partners, and industry experts. The goal was to validate the findings from the assessment against ground realities so that the project can support the development of a market relevant curriculum development.

For decades, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nepal has often been viewed as a secondary option rather than a first-choice career pathway. Yet, TVET equips young people with practical skills that are increasingly in demand and can lead to rewarding careers, entrepreneurship and economic opportunities.
In this video, content creator Binayak Kuikel takes a closer look at Nepal's TVET system: how it works, what opportunities it offers, and why skills-based education deserves the same recognition and respect as a traditional degree.

The Switzerland Government celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Nepal.

Swisscontact in Nepal was proud to join hands with the Nepal Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Helvetas Nepal to celebrate the Swiss National Day and honour 70 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Nepal.

It was a privilege to welcome H.E. Dr. Danielle Meuwly, Swiss Ambassador to Nepal, alongside over 600 visitors and 23 exhibitors. The event brought together the diplomatic community, private sector, development partners, entrepreneurs, and Swiss alumni to celebrate our shared partnership, exchange ideas, and strengthen connections.

Over 620,000 international tourists visited Nepal in the first half of 2026 alone, according to the Nepal Tourism Board. Looking ahead, the Government of Nepal's Strategic Action Plan for the Visit Nepal Decade (2023–2032) aims to attract 3.5 million tourists annually by 2032---nearly three times today's numbers.

That's exciting news for Nepal's economy but it also means more pressure on our treasured tourism destinations. Protecting them for the long term depends on careful planning and curating sustainable experiences for visitors.
