In January Municipal leaders from across Sudurpaschim and Karnali came together in Dhangadhi for a city-to-city exchange with to strengthen peer learning on inclusive, gender-responsive and climate-resilient public spaces.

Participants visited various sites to observe how nature-based solutions, participatory design, and thoughtful spatial planning can transform everyday infrastructure into vibrant public spaces that support women’s livelihoods, local markets, and community life.

The exchange created space for open dialogue between municipalities, communities, contractors, and technical experts which highlighted practical lessons on construction quality, asset management, and long-term maintenance. Importantly, these municipalities committed to replicating these approaches in their own contexts, reinforcing local ownership and sustainability.

Supported by the European Union in Nepal and Embassy of Finland in Kathmandu, with UN-Habitat Nepal and Cities Alliance, this exchange demonstrates how learning across cities helps scale inclusive and climate-resilient urban solutions across Nepal.
