"Remembering the Lives Lost in the Bhotekoshi Flood"

On the second day of the "3rd Asia-Pacific Indigenous Women and Girls with Disabilities Regional Convening 2026", we came together for a candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the lives lost in the recent Bhotekoshi Flood in Nepal.

With Indigenous women and girls with disabilities joining us from 15 countries across the Asia-Pacific region and our representatives from 7 provinces, we stood together in silence, remembrance, and solidarity. Each candle was a small light of remembrance for the departed souls - honoring their lives, holding their families and communities in our thoughts, and wishing for peace and an easy journey in the afterlife.

In moments of loss and grief, solidarity reminds us that no life is forgotten and no community stands alone.

May the departed souls rest in peace & may their memories continue to live among us.

Day 2 | Cross-country learning I 3rd Asia-Pacific Indigenous Women and Girls with Disabilities Regional Convening 2026

Day 2 brought participants together for reflection, cross-country learning, and deeper conversations on the realities, challenges, and priorities of Indigenous persons with disabilities across the Asia-Pacific region.

The day began by the reflections of Day 1 and the importance of building stronger connections across countries.

🌏 Through cross-country context learning participants shared common challenges, progress, urgent priorities, and commitments from their respective countries. Discussions highlighted recurring concerns including lack of recognition and legal identity, limited access to basic services, inaccessible infrastructure, unemployment, limited participation in decision-making, data gaps, and barriers to meaningful inclusion.

The day concluded with discussions on mapping regional movements, building alliances, strengthening movement infrastructure, and advancing the principle of “Nothing About Us Without Us” through collective action, shared knowledge, and solidarity.

कृषि, वन तथा वातावरण माननीय मन्त्री गीता चौधरीले आदिवासी अपाङ्गता भएका महिला र किशोरीहरूका समस्या समाधान गर्न नीतिगत सुधारको तयारी भइरहेको जानकारी दिनु भएको छ ।
“आदिवासी अपाङ्गता भएका महिला र किशोरीहरूको तेस्रो एसिया–प्रशान्त क्षेत्रस्तरीय सम्मेलन” को उद्घाटन गर्दै उहाँले यस्तो आश्वासन दिनु भएको हो ।
उहाँले आदिवासी अपाङ्गता भएका महिला र किशोरीहरू विरुद्ध नेपालमा मात्र होइन, विश्वभर नै सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक र संरचनात्मक विभेद कायम रहेको औंल्याउँदै उनीहरूका लागि न्याय सुनिश्चित गर्नुपर्ने आवश्यकतामा जोड दिनुभयो।

Day 1 | Connecting, Reflecting and Building Together 🌏

The 3rd Asia-Pacific Indigenous Women and Girls with Disabilities Regional Convening 2026 began with meaningful connections, shared reflections, and a collective look at the journey of our regional movement.

Key messages from Day 1:

Connecting Across Borders, sharing cultures, experiences, and building connections across the region.
Learning about Asia Pacific Indigenous Women and girls with Disabilities Network and understanding the journey of Indigenous Peoples’, Indigenous women’s, and Indigenous persons with disabilities’ rights movements.
Reflecting on APIWDN’s achievements, participation and progress in strengthening our regional movement.

From shared experiences to collective reflections, Day 1 set the foundation for deeper dialogue, solidarity and collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region.

“Rooted in Resistance, Rising in Solidarity and Strengthening Movement”

आज मिति २०८३ साल असोज ८ गते Asia Pacific Indigenous Women and girls with Disabilities Network र Nidwan Nepal को संयुक्त आयोजनामा तेस्रो एसिया–प्रशान्त क्षेत्रीय आदिवासी जनजाति अपाङ्ग महिला तथा किशोरीहरूको सम्मेलन उद्घाटन कार्यक्रम सम्पन्न भएको छ। उक्त कार्यक्रम वन तथा वातावरण माननीय मन्त्री गीता चौधरी ज्यूको प्रमुख आतिथ्यतामा सम्पन्न भएको हो।
कार्यक्रममा आदिवासी जनजाति आयोगका माननीय राम बहादुर थापा ज्यू, राष्ट्रिय सभाका माननीय सुरेश आले मगर ज्यूसंयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघका Acting In-Charge His Excellency Mr. Jaco du Toit, पूर्व बागमती प्रदेश सांसद तथा पूर्व स्वास्थ्य मन्त्री नेपाल आदिवासी जनजाति महासंघ (NEFIN) का अध्यक्ष निमा लामा हेल्मो ज्यू लगायत विशिष्ट व्यक्तित्वहरूको उपस्थिति रहेको थियो। साथै, AIPP का Executive Council Member जगत बराम, नेपाल आदिवासी महिला महासंघ (NIWF) की अध्यक्ष शोभा सुनुवार, काठमाडौं विश्वविद्यालयका सहप्राध्यापक Dr. Lina Gurung, GIZ Nepal, संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघका विभिन्न निकायहरू लगायत विभिन्न दातृय तथा साझेदार संस्थाका प्रतिनिधि, नागरिक समाज संगठन (CSOs) का प्रतिनिधि तथा अन्य सरोकारवालाहरूको समेत उल्लेखनीय सहभागिता रहेको थियो। कार्यक्रमको अध्यक्षता NIDWAN की अध्यक्ष डा. प्रतिमा गुरुङले गर्नुभएको थियो भने कार्यक्रमको सञ्चालन NIDWAN की महासचिव श्रुति Kumal ले गर्नुभएको थियो।
“Rooted in Resistance, Rising in Solidarity and Strengthening Movement” भन्ने मूल नाराका साथ आयोजना गरिएको यस क्षेत्रीय सम्मेलनमा १५ देश तथा सातै प्रदेशका ८० जना प्रतिनिधिहरूको उत्साहजनक सहभागिता रहेको छ।
