Quality teaching is at the heart of quality learning. To strengthen the capacity of the provincial teacher training system, UNICEF Nepal recently supported a capacity-building workshop for the Provincial Education Training Centre (PETC), Madhesh Province, and its roster trainers.
The workshop brought together 27 master trainers, along with representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture, Madhesh Province, the Education Development Directorate (EDD), UNICEF Nepal, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the British Council. Participants had open discussions on the challenges affecting teacher professional development, the link between teacher training quality and student learning outcomes, and practical ways to strengthen the province's teacher training system.
In the interactive sessions, trainers looked at good national and international practices in teacher professional development and took part in learner-centered, activity-based approaches they can use in future training programmes. The workshop ended with a shared commitment to make teacher training across Madhesh Province more effective, consistent and practical.
A key outcome of the workshop was PETC's agreement to develop a comprehensive provincial teacher training manual, bringing together standardized training strategies, facilitation techniques, learning materials, and session plans. The manual will serve as a practical resource for trainers across the province, promoting more consistent, engaging, and effective teacher professional development.
By supporting government-led teacher training, UNICEF Nepal is helping trainers and teachers access the tools and guidance they need to improve classroom learning.
