From 25–27 July, community consultations were held in Tapethok, Hellok, and Lelep to support the establishment of local Youth Cultural Groups and a Youth Culture Forum under the ECHO for Youth project. The consultations brought together young people and community representatives ensuring participation of girls, marginalized castes and ethnic groups, and persons with disabilities.

Orientation sessions introduced the purpose and structure of the Youth Cultural Groups and Youth Culture Forum, while information on local youth aged 15–29 was collected to support cultural group formation and future engagement.

Samriddha Pahad was proud to support Sinam United Sanskritik Tatha Sporting Club in organizing the 2nd Sirijangha Tourism Festival 2083, held in Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality–8, Taplejung, from 29–31 May 2026.

The three-day festival celebrated the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and tourism potential of the Kangchenjunga region. Highlights included vibrant local cultural performances, exhibitions of traditional cuisines and locally made products, the Kangchenjunga Marathon, and performances by renowned regional and national artists.

Events like these play an important role in promoting community-led tourism, preserving local culture, and creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs while showcasing the unique identity of Taplejung.

Samriddha Pahad participated in the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 with an exhibition stall showcasing the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Kangchenjunga Conservation Area.

The exhibition featured authentic handicrafts made by women from Taplejung, including galaicha (carpets), handwoven baskets and bags, and silam sakma, alongside iconic cultural items such as tongba, Dhaka products, and traditional jewelry. Most handcrafted products were brought directly from Taplejung, while additional handicrafts and cultural displays were presented in collaboration with Srijana Dhaka Boutique, Sukunda Nepal Pvt. Ltd., and Red Panda Network, reflecting the region's rich artisanal traditions and cultural identity.

Visitors also learned about Samriddha Pahad's ongoing ECHO for Youth project and other initiatives promoting community-led conservation, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainable tourism in the Kangchenjunga region.

Samriddha Pahad conducted its Annual Review and Planning Meeting from 27–29 June 2026 in Sauraha, Chitwan, bringing together staff from Kathmandu, Phungling, and Taplejung field offices.

The three-day meeting focused on reviewing progress of projects being implemented, planning for FY 2083/84, learning conservation from Chitwan National Park and community tourism best practices from Homestay in Madi, Chitwan, and strengthening teamwork through a dedicated team-building day. Together, we are committed to cultural heritage, conservation, sustainable tourism, and community development in the Kangchenjunga region.

Her Excellency Veronique Lorenzo, the European Union’s Ambassador to Nepal, visited Taplejung District and the Kangchenjunga region as part of the EU-funded ECHO for Youth (Empowering Cultural Heritage and Opportunities for Young Innovators) project. The visit to Phungling and Phaktanglung Rural Municipality (Tapethok and Lelep) marked the beginning of this collaborative initiative, bringing together local communities, youth representatives, and a Youth Sounding Board Member to discuss opportunities for youth empowerment and cultural heritage preservation.

During her visit, H.E. met with local government officials, community members, school, health post and youth groups, and visited the Kangchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council (KCAMC), the ECHO project office, Habre Center, schools, hydropower project in Lelep, and the Kangchenjunga Porter Association. The engagement provided an opportunity to engage with local stakeholders, gain insights into community priorities, and strengthen partnerships supporting sustainable development in the Kangchenjunga region.

Also in attendance were Rosalba Tuseo, Programme Officer and Civil Society Focal Person, European Union; Jose Luis Vinuesa-Santamaria, Head of Cooperation at the European Union; and Pragya Karki, Youth Sounding Board Member.

UNESCO Biospheres are valuable sites to explore the relationships between cultural heritage and natural systems; where communities can lead on action-based approaches to ensure that future management is based on the cultural and natural value of the region.
This webinar will share insights from the Montage Project, a new partnership connecting mountain regions in Nepal, Scotland and Norway. Montage brings together researchers and practitioners working towards Nepal's first UNESCO Biosphere nomination in collaboration with teams working in UNESCO Biospheres in Scotland and Norway.

Samriddha Pahad team held the third inception meeting for the Empowering Cultural Heritage and Opportunities for Young Innovators (ECHO for Youth) project on 22nd May 2026 at Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, Taplejung.

The inception meeting was conducted in the presence of chairperson, vice-chairperson and ward chairperson (no.6) of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, representatives from KCAMC, banks, schools, private sector and other institutions.

During the session, the ECHO for Youth project was formally introduced, and discussions were held on potential areas of collaboration and engagement to support its implementation.
