Celebrating World Car-Free Day 2026 in Lalitpur!
Today, ललितपुर महानगरपालिका कार्यालय, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office, with the support of Nepal Cycle Society, came together to celebrate World Car-Free Day 2026 and create a more creative, inclusive, and people-friendly public space.
The event brought together people of different ages and backgrounds, creating opportunities to learn, interact, create, and reflect on the importance of streets and public spaces beyond motor vehicles.
40 children participated in creative art and colouring activities.
5 elderly community members joined conversations and learned more about the significance of World Car-Free Day.
20 young people actively engaged in the day's activities.
Overall, approximately 80–90 people visited and engaged with the space throughout the event.
From children's creativity to conversations with local residents and older community members, the day demonstrated how car-free spaces can bring people together and create opportunities for interaction, recreation, and community connection.
A special thank you to our wonderful partners Kalashala-A space to create Baakhan Nyane waa- बाखं न्यने वा, Let's Play Initiative Nepal, and Carfree Cities Alliance, for their valuable support and contributions in making today's celebration meaningful and successful. 🙏
We would also like to thank everyone who joined us, shared their ideas, participated in the activities, and helped make the space come alive.
Streets are not only for vehicles; they are spaces for people, community, culture, creativity, and connection.
Happy World Car-Free Day 2026!
