Following the 2023 Jajarkot Earthquake, NSET Nepal, with the support of Welthungerhilfe (WHH), successfully completed and handed over the newly constructed earthquake-resistant school facilities at Birendra Primary School, Bhargaun, and Kalika Adarsha Basic School, Garchhina, Nalgad Municipality–6, Jajarkot.
𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟑𝟑𝟎 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬
• Birendra Primary School – 72 students
• Kalika Adarsha Basic School – 258 students
The project includes 9 earthquake-resistant classrooms and 8 toilet units with WASH facilities, providing safer and more conducive learning spaces for children
🌱 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞:
🔹 Construction using eco-friendly Compressed Stabilized Earth Bricks (CSEB)
🔹 70 mason trained for earthquake resistance construction using CSEB technology and production
🔹 orientation on earthquake resistance construction and preparedness for 60 community members
🔹 Establishment of a community-led CSEB production enterprise supporting local skills and livelihoods
🔹 Development of School Safety Plans to strengthen preparedness and resilience
🔹 Promotion of sustainable and locally adaptable construction practices
The ceremony was attended by Ms. Debika Lamichhane, Vice Mayor of Nalgad Municipality, as Chief Guest, along with Mr. Shakeb Nabi, Country Director, WHH; Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Executive Director, NSET Nepal; and Mr. Birendra Khadka, Ward Chairperson, Ward No. 6. along with SMC Chairpersons, municipal representatives, teachers, project staff, community representatives, and other stakeholders.

Information on the suspension of vehicular movement in various districts today and tomorrow, based on the level of risk due to heavy, very heavy, and extremely heavy rainfall, as well as guidance to make decisions based on the situation and remain alert:
Districts indicated in red: All vehicular movement will be completely suspended.
Districts indicated in orange: Vehicular movement will be suspended during nighttime. During the daytime, the District Monsoon Response Command Post will decide based on the prevailing situation.
Districts indicated in yellow: Remain alert and exercise caution

A rapid scientific analysis of the devastating 26 August 2026 Bhotekoshi flash flood has been jointly developed by International Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) International Centre of Excellence in Nepal, Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IRDR ICoE IHRR), and NSET-Nepal (IRDR ICoE NSET).

The analysis examines the cascading sequence of the disaster from the apparent ice, rock and soil mass failure and temporary river blockage to the subsequent breach and downstream flash flood-and its devastating impacts along the Bhotekoshi–Trishuli corridor.

The report was developed using available secondary data from official sources, including NDRRMA and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Flood Forecasting Unit, as well as publicly available media reports.

We are deeply saddened and stunned by the devastating loss of lives and destruction caused by the flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Bhadra 10, affecting Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and surrounding areas.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who lost their lives, deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, and wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured. We stand in solidarity with all those engaged in search, rescue, relief and recovery.
This tragedy once again highlights the urgent need to strengthen Early Warning Systems (EWS), risk monitoring, preparedness and transboundary mechanisms in mountainous regions facing increasing cascading and multi-hazard disaster risks.
