On August 17, 2026, the Nepal Economic Forum launched the ‘Nepal-China 101’ report on business, renewable energy, and tourism relations between the two countries following a two-year study.
The highlight of the event was a keynote address by Dr. Brian Wong, Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong, offering insights into the evolving contours of Nepal-China engagement. Dr. Brian Wong challenged conventional diplomacy, underscoring how historical legacies continue to shape contemporary geopolitical choices.
During the event, ‘Nepal-China 101’ Project Coordinator Arya Awale presented the study’s findings. Our commentator, Aneka Rebecca Rajbhandari, Co-Founder of the Araniko Project, also reflected on relations between the two countries, critiquing the rush to geopolitics, noting that institutional distance often offsets Nepal's geographic proximity. Meanwhile, opening and concluding the event, NEF Chair Sujeev Shakya reinforced Nepal Economic Forum's dedication to championing discourse on the nation's core development trajectories.
