World Mental Health Day 2026 | Lived experiences: real voices, real change.

🧠 In Nepal, 1 in 10 adults have experienced a mental health condition. This World Mental Health Day, let’s recognise lived experience as expertise and ensure people’s voices are at the heart of mental health care.

🤝 Through the Joint UN Mental Health Support Programme, the Government of Nepal and UN partners, with support from the Government of Switzerland, are working together to strengthen mental health systems and expand access to quality, person-centred care.

💜 Let’s listen, learn and turn real voices into real change.

In the aftermath of the devastating floods in Nepal, many health workers faced personal loss, anxiety, sleeplessness, and exhaustion, —yet continued to serve their communities.

🎥 Hear their stories and learn why caring for the mental health and wellbeing of frontline responders matters, too.

With support from the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, WHO is working with the Government of Nepal to strengthen mental health and psychosocial support for flood-affected communities.

affect more than infrastructure, they can also affect how children feel, cope, learn, and recover. For many children and adolescents, experiencing disasters can lead to , , fear, and other emotional challenges that affect their learning and well-being.

To help address these needs, the orientation of school health on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) kicked off on 2 October in . Thirty school health nurses from across the district participated in the first two batches of the orientation.

By 15 October, approximately 130 school health nurses from flood-affected districts will strengthen their skills to identify signs of mental distress among children and adolescents, provide basic psychosocial support, and refer those needing specialized care.

Supported by the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, this programme is being implemented in coordination with Nursing and Social Security Division (NSSD), the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), the Provincial Health Directorate, and district and local governments with technical support from World Health Organization (WHO).
